Abstract

Provided is a CAN system that can generate an error signal without requiring hardware for generating an error signal to be connected to a bus. A protocol processing part within a CAN controller incorporates error data into receive data or send data, based on error data information stored in a register.

Claims (13)

1. A network system comprising a plurality of electric control units coupled with a Controller Area Network,

each of the electric control units is capable to receive an instruction from outside thereof for performing an error check of a message, and includes a central processing unit, and a network interface unit for the Controller Area Network,

wherein in a selected electric control unit by the instruction, the central processing unit sets an information into a register in the network interface unit, and

wherein the network interface unit changes the message to an error inserted message of a send message or a received message; the information stored in the register is for specifying kinds of an inserted error of the message and which message is being changed.

2. The network system according to claim 1 ,

wherein the information further includes a position information for inserting the error to the message.

3. The network system according to claim 2 ,

wherein the network interface unit includes an error management unit for detecting the error in the message.

4. The network system according to claim 3 ,

wherein when the network interface unit changes to the error inserted message of the received message, the network interface unit changes the received message to the error inserted message and transfers the error inserted message to the error management unit,

wherein when the network interface unit changes to the error inserted message of the send message, the network interface unit changes the send message to the error inserted message, transfers the error inserted message to a loopback path, receives the error inserted message from the loopback path, and transfers the error inserted message received from the loopback path to the error management unit.

5. The network system according to the claim 3 ,

wherein one of the kinds of the inserted error of the message is to insert an error to an identifier field of the received message.
