Abstract

A fiber distribution device includes a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted to a support structure. At least a first optical splitter module is mounted to the swing frame chassis. Pigtails having connectorized ends are carried by the swing frame chassis and have portions that are routed generally vertically on the swing frame chassis. An optical termination field includes fiber optic adapters carried by the swing frame chassis. The fiber optic adapters are configured to receive the connectorized ends of the pigtails.

Claims (40)

1. A fiber distribution hub comprising:

an enclosure having at least one door that can be opened to access an interior of the enclosure;

a hinged swing frame chassis pivotally mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the swing frame chassis being pivotally moveable between a closed position and an open position;

at least one optical splitter module including an optical splitter, the optical splitter module being mounted to the swing frame chassis;

a plurality of splitter output pigtails for carrying signals split by the optical splitter, the splitter output pigtails each including an optical fiber and a connectorized end, the splitter output pigtails being routed on the swing frame chassis such that the splitter output pigtails remain fixed relative to the swing frame chassis as the swing frame chassis is moved throughout its range of movement between the closed and open positions; and

an optical termination field for optically connecting the splitter output pigtails to optical fibers corresponding to subscriber locations, the optical termination field being carried by the swing frame chassis, the optical termination field including a plurality of subscriber ports for receiving the connectorized ends of the splitter output pigtails.

2. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the splitter output pigtails include slack stored on the swing frame chassis.

3. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the splitter output pigtails include half loops carried by the swing frame chassis.

4. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein portions of the splitter output pigtails are routed vertically on the swing frame chassis.

5. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein portions of the splitter output pigtails are routed downwardly and then looped upwardly on the swing frame chassis.

6. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis includes at least one channel for routing the splitter output pigtails on the swing frame chassis.

7. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis includes at least one vertical channel for routing the splitter output pigtails on the swing frame chassis.

8. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis is equipped with a lock for securing the swing frame chassis in the open position.

9. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein optical fiber routed to the swing frame chassis is routed to the chassis at the factory along a single point of flex corresponding to a hinge point of the chassis such that the fiber bend at the hinge point is not subject to craft handling in the field thereby ensuring manufacture recommended bend radii are not violated when the swing frame chassis is moved between the closed and open positions.

10. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the optical termination field includes a first side positioned opposite from a second side, wherein the connectorized ends of the splitter output pigtails are received in the subscriber ports at the first side of the termination field, wherein first side of the optical termination field is accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position and the second side of the optical termination field is not accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position, and wherein access to the second side of the optical termination field is enabled when the swing frame chassis is moved to the open position.

11. The fiber distribution hub of claim 10 , wherein the splitter module is accessible when the swing frame chassis is in the closed position.

12. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein the swing frame chassis includes a plurality of splitter mounting positions for receiving splitter modules.

13. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , wherein a fiber splice region is carried by the swing frame chassis.

14. The fiber distribution hub of claim 1 , further comprising an administrative storage location for staging the connectorized ends of unused ones of the splitter output pigtails, the administrative storage location being carried by the swing frame chassis at a location separate from the optical termination field.

15. The fiber distribution hub of claim 14 , wherein the connectorized ends of the unused splitter output pigtails are staged in defined columns.

16. A fiber distribution hub comprising:

an enclosure having at least one door that opens to provide access to an interior of the enclosure;

a termination field including a plurality of subscriber termination connectors located within the interior of the enclosure;

a splitter module located within the interior of the enclosure;

a plurality of splitter output pigtails extending from the splitter module, the splitter output pigtails having connectorized ends;

a storage panel mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the storage panel being configured to pivot relative to the termination field, the storage panel being configured to receive the connectorized ends of the splitter output pigtails when the splitter output pigtails are not in use.

17. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 16 , further comprising a swing frame chassis pivotally mounted within the enclosure, wherein the termination field is carried by the swing frame chassis.

18. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 17 , wherein the storage panel is pivotally mounted to the swing frame chassis.

19. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 18 , wherein the swing frame chassis defines an interior volume for accepting the termination field.

20. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 19 , wherein the swing frame chassis carries the splitter module.

21. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the storage panel carries a plurality of storage receptacles that are configured to receive the connectorized ends of the unused splitter output pigtails.

22. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 21 , wherein the storage receptacles are organized by columns on the storage panel.

23. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 21 , wherein the storage receptacles are removable from the storage panel.

24. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the storage panel has a storage management area and a storage field.

25. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 24 , wherein the storage management area includes pigtail guides.

26. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 25 , wherein the storage panel has an upper storage management area, an upper storage field, a lower storage management area, and a lower storage field.

27. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 16 , further comprising a second storage panel mounted within the interior of the enclosure, the second storage panel being configured to pivot relative to the termination field, the second storage panel being configured to receive the connectorized ends of some of the splitter output pigtails when the splitter output pigtails are not in use.

28. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 27 , wherein each of the storage panels are pivotally mounted to a swing frame chassis carrying the termination field.

29. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 28 , wherein the storage panel is mounted to a first side of the swing frame chassis and the second storage panel is mounted to a second side of the swing frame chassis.

30. The fiber distribution hub as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the storage panel serves as a protective cover for the termination field.
