Abstract

A communication analysis system for an online game is described. A communication history among players of the online game is retrieved. Communication tracking metrics are generated based on the communication history of the players of the online game. A retention analysis is performed with the communication tracking metrics to determine retention of players of the online game. A retention recommendation is generated based on the retention analysis.

Claims (42)

1. A system comprising:

a memory; and

one or more computer processors configured to provide:

an in-game action module configured to identify reciprocated in-game actions among players of a game within a last number of days; and

an active social network module configured to:

determine a size of an active social network of a player based at least in part on the identified reciprocated in-game actions between the player and other players of the game within a preceding time period;

compute a size of a sustaining active social network of the game;

compute a percentage of players who have an active social network at least at large as the size of the sustaining active social network for the game in the preceding time period; and

compute a percentage of players who have an active social network with at least one player in the preceding time period.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the size of the active social network of the player is the number of players with whom the player has at least a minimum number of reciprocated in-game actions within the preceding time period.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein an in-game action is reciprocated when a first player of a first game instance performs a first in-game action on a second game instance of a second player, the second player performing a second in-game action in response to the first in-game action within a time length.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the in-game actions comprise at least one in-game action from a first player of a first game instance on a second game instance of a second player.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein a first set of in-game actions available to the first player in the first game instance is different from a second set of in-game actions available to the second player in the second game instance.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the in-game actions comprises at least one in-game action of a character of a first player of a first game instance in a second game instance of a second player.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a retention module configured to determine an average size of the active social network of players of the game, and to compare the size of the active social network of the player of the game with the average size of the active social network of players of the game.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the retention module is further configured to determine that the size of the active social network of the player of the game is less than the average size of the active social network of players of the game, and to generate a retention recommendation.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the size of the active social network is based at least in part on a number of players with whom the player has formed at least one closed social interaction loop within a most recent time window, the closed social interaction loop occurring when a second player generates a second in-game action in a game of a first player in response to the first player having generated a first in-game action in a game of the second player.

10. A method comprising:

identifying, using at least one processor of a machine, reciprocated in-game actions among players of a game within a last number of days;

determining a size of an active social network of a player based at least in part on the identified reciprocated in-game actions between the player and other players of the game within a preceding time period;

computing a size of a sustaining active social network of the game;

computing a percentage of players who have an active social network at least at large as the size of the sustaining active social network for the game in the preceding time period; and

computing a percentage of players who have an active social network with at least one player in the preceding time period.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the size of the active social network of the player is the number of players with whom the player has at least a minimum number of reciprocated in-game actions within the preceding time period.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein an in-game action is reciprocated when a first player of a first game instance performs a first in-game action on a second game instance of a second player, the second player performing a second in-game action in response to the first in-game action within a time length.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the in-game actions comprise at least one in-game action from a first player of a first game instance on a second game instance of a second player.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein a first set of in-game actions available to the first player in the first game instance is different from a second set of in-game actions available to the second player in the second game instance.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the in-game actions comprises at least one in-game action of a character of a first player of a first game instance in a second game instance of a second player.

16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

determining an average size of the active social network of players of the game; and

comparing the size of the active social network of the player of the game with the average size of the active social network of players of the game.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

determining that the size of the active social network of the player of the game is less than the average size of the active social network of players of the game; and

generating a retention recommendation.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the size of the active social network is based at least in part on a number of players with whom the player has formed at least one closed social interaction loop within a most recent time window, the closed social interaction loop occurring when a second player generates a second in-game action in a game of a first player in response to the first player having generated a first in-game action in a game of the second player.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, comprising:

identifying, using at least one processor of a machine, reciprocated in-game actions among players of a game within a last number of days;

determining a size of an active social network of a player based at least in part on the identified reciprocated in-game actions between the player and other players of the game within a preceding time period;

computing a size of a sustaining active social network of the game;

computing a percentage of players who have an active social network at least at large as the size of the sustaining active social network for the game in the preceding time period; and

computing a percentage of players who have an active social network with at least one player in the preceding time period.
