Abstract

A method of enabling in-game contextual chatting is disclosed. A request for information about an online game currently being played by a first player and a second player is received. A previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player is determined. A chat transcript is generated that pertains to the online game in response to the request for the information, the chat transcript spanning from the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player to the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player.

Claims (27)

determining, with one or more processors, a previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player; and

generating a chat transcript pertaining to the online game in response to the request for the information, the chat transcript spanning from the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player to the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player, the chat transcript comprising messages entered automatically on behalf of the first player and the second player and messages entered manually by the first player and the second player.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player is of the same type as the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein that chat transcript comprises a header that provides a context of messages included in the chat transcript after the header.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the header comprises information pertaining to a stage of the game.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the online game is a card game and the information includes a hand of the card game.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the previous online game is a modified version of the online game currently being played.

7. A system comprising:

a processor-implemented messaging module configured to:

receive a request for information about an online game currently being played by a first player and a second player, the online game being played according to a set of rules and a strategy;

determine a previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player; and

generate a chat transcript pertaining to the online game in response to the request for the information, the chat transcript spanning from the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player to the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player, the chat transcript comprising messages entered automatically on behalf of the first player and the second player and messages entered manually by the first player and the second player.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player is of the same type as the game currently being played by the first player and the second player.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the chat transcript comprises a header that provides a context of messages included in the chat transcript after the header.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the header includes information pertaining to a stage of the online game.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the online game is a card game and the information includes a hand of the card game.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the online game includes a posting of a blind and the information includes an amount of the blind.

13. A non-transitory machine readable storage medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a request for information about an online game currently being played by a first player and a second player, the online game being played according to a set of rules and a strategy;

determining a previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player; and

generating a chat transcript pertaining to the online game in response to the request for the information, the chat transcript spanning from the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player to the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player, the chat transcript comprising messages entered automatically on behalf of the first player and the second player and messages entered manually by the first player and the second player.

14. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the previous online game that was previously played by the first player and the second player is of the same type as the online game currently being played by the first player and the second player.

15. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein that chat transcript comprises a header that provides a context of messages included in the chat transcript after the header.

16. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the header comprises information pertaining to a stage of the online game.

17. The non-transitory machine readable storage medium of claim 16 wherein the online game includes a posting of a blind and the information includes an amount of the blind.
