Nutritional composition comprising an apple extract and reducing food allergy symptoms, especially in children
View Patent ↗A complete nutritional composition comprising polyphenols is provided for reducing the symptoms of allergies originating from food allergens in young children or infants. Preferably the composition modulates the secondary prevention of allergies while not affecting significantly the primary prevention. The composition comprises an apple extract.
1. A method for reducing the symptoms of allergies originating from food in patients having allergies triggered by food allergens comprising the step of administering a nutritional composition comprising vitamins, minerals, a source of protein comprising essential amino acids, a source of lipids comprising essential fatty acids, and a source of carbohydrates and comprising an apple extract comprising at least 40% polyphenols, and flavonols are present in the apple extract in an amount of 20-35% of the polyphenols, to the patient.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition provides secondary prevention against allergic reactions triggered by the food allergens.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition has no effect on the sensitization of the patients to the allergens.
4. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises between 0.1% w/w to 1% w/w of the apple extract.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises quercetin.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises hydrolyzed proteins.
7. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition reduces the sensitization to other allergens later in life.
8. The method of claim 1 wherein the symptoms are selected from the group consisting of diarrhea, skin irritation, respiratory and combinations thereof.
9. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises cereal proteins.
10. The method of claim 1 wherein the patient is a human selected from the group consisting of an infant up to 6 months old, an infant after the first 6 months of life, and a child between 1 and 6 years of age.
11. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition is an infant cereal composition and is administered to a human infant 1 to 4 years old.
12. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition is administered to a human infant during the weaning period and/or up to 12 months thereafter.
13. The method of claim 1 wherein the patients are human infants or young children below the age of six.
14. The method of claim 1 where the symptoms are accompanied by a release of biochemical mediators.
15. The method of claim 1 wherein the composition has no effect on the sensitization of the patients to the allergens, and the composition comprises between 0.1% w/w to 1% w/w of the apple extract.
