Abstract

A constant voltage power supply circuit includes an output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit and a drooping over-current protection circuit unit. The output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit reduces, when an output current which is output from an output terminal of an output control transistor exceeds a first set value which is determined in advance, the output current from the first set value in a manner dependent on a reduction of an output voltage which is output from the output terminal. The drooping over-current protection circuit unit detects, with an external resistor, the output current which is output from the output terminal of the output control transistor, and reduces, when the detected output current exceeds a second set value which is determined in advance and which has a lower value than the first set value, the output voltage while maintaining the output current at the second set value.

Claims (16)

1. A constant voltage power supply circuit comprising:

an output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit,

wherein the output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit reduces, when an output current which is output from an output terminal of an output control transistor exceeds a first set value which is determined in advance, the output current from the first set value in a manner dependent on a reduction of an output voltage which is output from the output terminal; and

a drooping over-current protection circuit unit,

wherein the drooping over-current protection circuit unit detects, with an external resistor, the output current which is output from the output terminal of the output control transistor, and

wherein the drooping over-current protection circuit unit reduces, when the detected output current exceeds a second set value which is determined in advance and which has a lower value than the first set value, the output voltage while maintaining the output current at the second set value.

2. The constant voltage power supply circuit according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an over-current protection function selecting unit,

wherein the over-current protection function selecting unit, when the external resistor is short-circuited, causes only the output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit to function, and

wherein the over-current protection function selecting unit, when the external resistor is not short-circuited, reduces the output voltage while maintaining the output current at the second set value with a function of the drooping over-current protection circuit unit, and reduces the output current from the second set value in a manner dependent on the reduction of the output voltage, by the output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit in a range of output voltage lower than or equal to an output voltage crossing a voltage/current characteristic of the output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit.

3. The constant voltage power supply circuit according to claim 2 , wherein the output voltage dependent over-current protection circuit unit comprises:

an internal resistor for detecting a magnitude of the output current, and

an error amplifier comprising a first side input terminal and a second side input terminal,

wherein a value based on a voltage drop at the internal resistor is input to the first side input terminal, and a value based on the output voltage is input to the second side input terminal, and

wherein the error amplifier returns a value based on a difference between an input value of the first side input terminal and an input value of the second side input terminal to a control terminal of the output control transistor as an error feedback value.

4. The constant voltage power supply circuit according to claim 3 , wherein the constant voltage power supply circuit is structured as a semiconductor integrated circuit.
