On-Display-Sensor Stack
In one embodiment, an electronic display includes a display stack including one or more layers; and drive or sense electrodes of a touch sensor substantially disposed on one or more of the layers on or within the display stack. The drive or sense electrodes are made of a conductive mesh of conductive material.
1 . An electronic display comprising:
a display stack comprising one or more layers; and
drive or sense electrodes of a touch sensor substantially disposed on one or more of the layers on or within the display stack, the drive or sense electrodes being made of a conductive mesh of conductive material.
2 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the layers of the display stack is between the conductive mesh and a cover layer of the display stack.
3 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the layers of the display stack on which the touch sensor is disposed has an optical function modifying an optical property of light.
4 . The electronic display of claim 3 , wherein the optical function comprises color filtering.
5 . The electronic display of claim 3 , wherein the optical function comprises polarization.
6 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the conductive mesh comprises a plurality of mesh segments, each of the mesh segments comprise a plurality of lines of conductive material, each of the lines of conductive material having a width within a range of approximately 1 to approximately 10 μm.
7 . The electronic display of claim 6 , wherein a contribution of the lines of conductive material to the attenuation of light through the conductive mesh is within a range of approximately 1 to approximately 10%.
8 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the conductive mesh substantially covers an entire touch-sensitive area of the touch sensor disposed on one or more of the layers.
9 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the conductive material comprises gold, aluminum, copper, silver, gold-based, aluminum-based, silver-based, or copper-based, or carbon nanotubes.
10 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the electrodes, a track, and a connection pad of the touch sensor may be formed from a same conductive material.
11 . A device comprising:
an electronic display comprising a display stack comprising one or more layers; and
drive or sense electrodes of a touch sensor substantially disposed on one or more of the layers on or within the display stack, the drive or sense electrodes being made of a conductive mesh of conductive material; and
a computer-readable non-transitory storage medium embodying logic that is configured when executed to control the touch sensor.
12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the layers of the display stack is between the conductive mesh and a cover layer of the display stack.
13 . The device of claim 11 , wherein one or more of the layers of the display stack on which the touch sensor is disposed has an optical function modifying an optical property of light.
14 . The device of claim 13 , wherein the optical function comprises color filtering.
15 . The device of claim 13 , wherein the optical function comprises polarization.
16 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the conductive mesh comprises a plurality of mesh segments, each of the mesh segments comprise a plurality of lines of conductive material, each of the lines of conductive material having a width within a range of approximately 1 to approximately 10 μm.
17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein a contribution of the lines of conductive material to the attenuation of light through the conductive mesh is within a range of approximately 1 to approximately 10%.
18 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the conductive mesh substantially covers an entire touch-sensitive area of the touch sensor disposed on one or more of the layers.
19 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the conductive material comprises gold, aluminum, copper, silver, gold-based, aluminum-based, silver-based, or copper-based, or carbon nanotubes.
20 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the electrodes, a track, and a connection pad of the touch sensor may be formed from a same conductive material.
21 . An electronic display comprising:
a cover panel;
a display stack comprising one or more layers, one or more of the layers of the display stack has an optical function modifying an optical property of light;
an adhesive layer between the cover panel and a top layer of a display stack; and
drive or sense electrodes of a touch sensor substantially disposed on one or more of the layers on or within the display stack, the drive or sense electrodes being made of a conductive mesh of conductive material.
