Abstract

Preform assembly ( 1 ) for blow moulding a container ( 20 ), comprising at least a first ( 2 ) and a second ( 3 ) preform, wherein the first preform ( 2 ) is positioned inside the second preform ( 3 ) before blow moulding the preforms into the container, wherein each preform has a body forming portion having a wall thickness of less than about 8 millimetres, preferably less than about 6 mm. A container blow moulded from the preform assembly and a method and an apparatus for forming the preform assembly are also disclosed.

A container blow moulded from a preform assembly comprising a first preform in a second preform, a first layer of the container formed from the first preform and a second layer, outside the first layer, formed from the second preform, wherein the plastics material of the first preform has been stretched further for forming the first layer than the plastics material of the second preform for forming the second layer, wherein the container comprises a neck which comprises a neck portion of the first preform and a neck portion of the second preform, wherein prior to blow moulding the neck portion of the first preform is within the neck portion of the second preform, wherein the neck portion of the second preform is crimped onto the neck portion of the first preform, wherein one or more openings are provided in the neck portion, in an inner or outer peripheral surface thereof, opening into a region between the first preform and the second preform, wherein the one or more openings open into a space between a neck forming portion of a first container formed from the first preform and a neck forming portion of a second container formed from the second preform, wherein the space extends in a circumferential direction around the neck region of the first preform, wherein the container comprises spacers in said space, the spacers extending between the neck portions and into a shoulder portion of each of the first layer of the container and the second layer of the container.

2. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has an inner volume of more than three litres and wherein the neck portion of the first preform has an inner cross section of more than about 25 millimetres.

3. The container according to claim 1 wherein a deformable inner container is provided within an inner space of the container, enclosed by the first layer.

4. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has a body portion having an inner wall portion and an outer wall portion, wherein a space or gap is provided between the inner and the outer wall portion, surrounding the body portion of the inner wall portion, closed off or closable to the environment.

5. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the neck portion of the first preform has an inner cross section of more than about 25 millimetres.

6. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening is provided below a free edge of the first preform and wherein the at least one opening opens into said space between two spacers, wherein the spacers comprise ribs or notches and wherein a lid element is connected to the neck forming portions of the first and second container, closing off said space.

7. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has an inner volume of more than 5 liters.

8. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has an inner volume of more than 10 liters.

9. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has an inner volume of between about 10 and 30 liters.

10. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the container has a body portion having an inner wall portion and an outer wall portion, wherein a space or gap is provided between the inner and the outer wall portion, surrounding the inner wall portion, closed off or closable to the environment, which gap is filled with a fluid.

11. The container according to claim 1 , wherein a neck portion is provided having an inner cross section of more than about 40 millimetres.

12. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the first layer of the container has a bottom releasable from a bottom of the second layer of the container.

13. The container according to claim 12 , wherein the first layer of the container and the second layer of the container are blow moulded from a preform assembly in which the first preform and the second preform are provided with a continuous bottom, as a result the container has a continuous bottom too.

14. A blow moulded container comprising an outer container and an inner container, releasable from the outer container, the container comprising a neck which comprises a neck portion of the outer container and a neck portion of the inner container, one or more openings through a peripheral wall of the neck portion of the outer container or through a peripheral wall of the neck portion of the inner container into a space between the neck portions of the outer and inner containers, wherein the space extends in a circumferential direction around the neck portion of the inner container, wherein the container has been blow moulded from a preform assembly comprising an injection moulded first preform in an injection moulded second preform, the inner container formed from the first preform and the outer container formed from the second preform, wherein said one or more openings is provided in the relevant preform prior to blow moulding, the container further comprising spacers in said space, the spacers extending between the neck portions and into a shoulder portion of each of the inner and outer containers.

15. The container according to claim 14 , wherein a lid is connected to the container, closing off at least said space between the inner container and the outer container, above the at least one opening.

16. The container according to claim 15 , wherein the lid comprises a central opening, opening into an inner volume of the container defined by the inner container.

17. The container according to claim 14 , wherein a compressor or pump is connected to the at least one opening for feeding pressurized fluid into the space between the inner and the outer container for collapsing the inner container.

18. The container according to claim 14 , wherein the preform assembly is provided with a lid connected to the first and second preforms, closing off said space between said first and second preforms, prior to blow moulding the container.

19. The container according to claim 14 , wherein the container has a body portion having an inner wall portion and an outer wall portion, wherein a space or gap is provided between the inner and the outer wall portion, surrounding the inner wall portion, closed off or closable to the environment, which gap is filled with a compressed fluid.
