Abstract

A system, computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program, and a computer-implemented method for providing a game action sweep mechanic are presented. A virtual game environment that includes a first virtual object and a second virtual object may be generated for a user. User interactions involving a game pointer and a selection input are then monitored. In response to detecting the selection input being activated while the game pointer is located proximate to the first virtual object, a game action is then performed on the first virtual object. A game action sweep mode is then activated. While the game action sweep mode is active, the game action is then performed on the second virtual game object in response to detecting the game pointer is located proximate to the second virtual object.

Claims (70)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

generating, by one or more processors, a virtual game environment that includes a first virtual object and a second virtual object;

monitoring, by the one or more processors, user interactions involving a game pointer and a selection input;

responsive to detecting the selection input being activated while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object:

soliciting a selection of a game action from a menu associated with the first virtual object;

receiving a selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object;

performing, by the one or more processors, the selected game action on the first virtual object in response to detecting the selection input being activated, and not having been deactivated, while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object;

activating a game action sweep mode in response to detecting that the selection input remains activated after the performing of the selected game action on the first virtual object; and

while the game action sweep mode is activated:

performing, by the one or more processors, the selected game action on the second virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the second virtual object; and

determining a type of the selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object matches a type of game action associated with, and is supported by, the second virtual game object.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein activating the game action sweep mode comprises:

associating the game action sweep mode with a type of virtual object corresponding to the first virtual object; and

wherein performing the selected game action on the second virtual object comprises:

determining that a type of virtual object associated with the game action sweep mode matches a type of virtual object associated with the second virtual object.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with differing types of virtual objects.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with matching types of virtual objects.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selection input corresponds to one of:

a keyboard button, a button on a mouse device, a button on a control device, a user interaction with a touch screen display, or a voice command.

6. A computer system comprising:

at least one processor;

a game engine module implemented by the at least one processor and configured to generate a virtual game environment that includes a first virtual object and a second virtual object;

a control module implemented by the at least one processor and configured to:

monitor user interactions involving a game pointer and a selection input;

responsive to detecting the selection input being activated while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object, the control module further configured to:

solicit a selection of a game action from a menu associated with the first virtual object;

receiving a selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object;

cause the game engine module to perform the selected game action on the first virtual object in response to detecting the selection input being activated, and not having been deactivated, while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object;

activating a game action sweep mode in response to detecting that the selection input remains activated after the performing of the selected game action on the first virtual object; and

cause the game engine module to perform, while the game action sweep mode is activated, the selected game action on the second virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the second virtual object; and

determining a type of the selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object matches a type of game action associated with, and is supported by, the second virtual game object.

7. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the control module is further configured to:

activate the game action sweep mode by associating the game action sweep mode with a type of virtual object corresponding to the first virtual object; and

wherein the control module causes the game engine module to perform the selected game action on the second virtual object by determining that a type of virtual object associated with the game action sweep mode matches a type of virtual object associated with the second virtual object.

8. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with differing types of virtual objects.

9. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with matching types of virtual objects.

10. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the selection input corresponds to one of:

a keyboard button, a button on a mouse device, a button on a control device, a user interaction with a touch screen display, or a voice command.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions for causing a processor to implement operations, the operations comprising:

generating a virtual game environment that includes a first virtual object and a second virtual object;

monitoring user interactions involving a game pointer and a selection input;

responsive to detecting the selection input being activated while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object:

soliciting a selection of a game action from a menu associated with the first virtual object;

receiving a selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object;

performing the selected game action on the first virtual object in response to detecting the selection input being activated, and not having been activated, while the game pointer is located over the first virtual object;

activating a game action sweep mode in response to detecting that the selection input remains activated after the performing of the selected game action on the first virtual object; and

while a game action sweep mode is activated:

performing the selected game action on the second virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the second virtual object; and

determining that a type of the selected game action selected from the menu associated with the first virtual object matches a type of game action associated with, and is supported by, the second virtual game object.

12. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein activating the game action sweep mode comprises:

associating the game action sweep mode with a type of virtual object corresponding to the first virtual object; and

wherein performing the selected game action on the second virtual object comprises:

determining that a type of virtual object associated with the game action sweep mode matches a type of virtual object associated with the second virtual object.

13. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with differing types of virtual objects.

14. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the first virtual object and the second virtual object are associated with matching types of virtual objects.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

while the game action sweep mode is activated, determining not to perform the selected game action on a third virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the third virtual object; and

determining that the type of the selected game is different from a type of a game action associated with the third virtual game object.

16. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the control module is further configured to:

while the game action sweep mode is activated, determine not to perform the selected game action on a third virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the third virtual object; and

determining that the type of the selected game action is different from a type of a game action associated with the third virtual game object.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:

while the game action sweep mode is activated, determining not to perform the selected game action on a third virtual game object in response to:

detecting the game pointer is located over the third virtual object; and

determining that the type of the selected game action is different from a type of a game action associated with the third virtual game object.
