1-methylnicotinaide derivatives and formulations of treatment of lipoprotein abnormalities
The present invention is directed to nicotinamide derivatives, and their use in treating lipoprotein abnormalities, alone or in combination with a statin.
1. A method for increasing HDL-cholesterol levels in a human subject in need thereof, comprising administering orally to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a therapeutically effective amount of a statin.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein said subject has low HDL-cholesterol levels before said administration.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide salt is selected from the group consisting of 1-methylnicotinamide chloride, 1-methylnicotinamide benzoate, 1-methylnicotinamide salicylate, 1-methylnicotinamide acetate, 1-methylnicotinamide citrate, and 1-methylnicotinamide lactate.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered concurrently.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered sequentially.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said statin is selected from the group consisting of mevastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, pitavastatin, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, rosuvastatin, pentostatin, nystatin, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and combinations thereof.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered formulated in pharmaceutical compositions.
8. A method for decreasing triglyceride levels in a human subject in need thereof, comprising administering orally to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a therapeutically effective amount of a statin.
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide salt is selected from the group consisting of 1-methylnicotinamide chloride, 1-methylnicotinamide benzoate, 1-methylnicotinamide salicylate, 1-methylnicotinamide acetate, 1-methylnicotinamide citrate, and 1-methylnicotinamide lactate.
10. The method of claim 8 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered concurrently.
11. The method of claim 8 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered sequentially.
12. The method of claim 8 , wherein said statin is selected from the group consisting of mevastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, pitavastatin, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, rosuvastatin, pentostatin, nystatin, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and combinations thereof.
13. The method of claim 8 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered formulated in pharmaceutical compositions.
14. A method of treating atherosclerosis in a human subject in need thereof, comprising administering orally to said subject a therapeutically effective amount of a 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a therapeutically effective amount of a statin.
15. The method of claim 14 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide salt is selected from the group consisting of 1-methylnicotinamide chloride, 1-methylnicotinamide benzoate, 1-methylnicotinamide salicylate, 1-methylnicotinamide acetate, 1-methylnicotinamide citrate, and 1-methylnicotinamide lactate.
16. The method of claim 14 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered concurrently.
17. The method of claim 14 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered sequentially.
18. The method of claim 14 , wherein said statin is selected from the group consisting of mevastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, pitavastatin, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, rosuvastatin, pentostatin, nystatin, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and combinations thereof.
19. The method of claim 14 , wherein said 1-methylnicotinamide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and said statin are administered formulated in pharmaceutical compositions.
