Abstract

An ulnar fixation plate includes a head portion configured to conform to a volar side of an ulnar bone proximate to an ulnar head, the head comprising of first head portion configured to receive a first fixation device, a second head portion configured to receive a second fixation device, and a shaft portion coupled to the head portion with the shaft portion configured to conform to the volar side of the ulnar bone.

Claims (16)

1. An ulnar fixation plate, comprising:

a head portion having a shape that is configured to conform conforms to an ulnar bone proximate to an ulnar head of the ulnar bone, the head portion comprising:

a first head portion opening configured to receive a first fixation device along a first axis, wherein the first head portion opening is oriented relative to the head portion such that the first axis projects through the ulnar bone; and

a second head portion opening configured to receive a second fixation device along a second axis, wherein the second head portion opening is oriented relative to the head portion such that the second axis projects through the ulnar bone, wherein the second axis is skew to the first axis;

a shaft portion coupled to the head portion, wherein the shaft portion has a shape that conforms to the ulnar bone proximate to a shaft of the ulnar bone, the shaft portion comprising at least one shaft portion opening configured to receive a third fixation device; and

a styloid tip portion extending out from the head portion opposite the shaft portion, wherein the styloid tip portion has a concave seat that conforms to the ulnar bone proximate to a styloid of the ulnar bone such that the seat is configured to receive at least a portion of a lateral surface, a medial surface, and a proximal surface of the styloid therein, the styloid tip portion comprising a styloid tip opening configured to receive a fourth fixation device along a third axis, wherein the styloid tip opening is oriented relative to the styloid tip portion such that the third axis projects through the ulnar styloid towards the ulnar head and below said styloid tip portion.

2. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the third axis is skew to the first axis and the second axis.

3. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the styloid tip portion is configured so as not to violate a distal radio-ulnar joint.

4. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the styloid tip portion is configured so as not to violate a sixth extensor compartment.

5. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the styloid tip portion is configured so as not to violate a pronator quadratus muscle.

6. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the shaft portion comprises at least three openings.

7. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 6 , wherein the second head portion opening is not collinear with the at least three openings of the shaft portion.

8. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the at least one shaft portion opening is an oblong opening.

9. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , the head portion further comprising a third head portion opening configured to receive a fourth fixation device along a fourth axis, wherein the third head portion opening is oriented relative to the head portion such that the fourth axis projects through the ulnar bone and is approximately coplanar with the second axis.

10. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the first head portion opening is oriented such that the first axis projects between a fifth extensor compartment and a sixth extensor compartment.

11. The ulnar fixation plate of claim 1 , wherein the ulnar fixation plate is adapted to accommodate alignment of the styloid tip portion on the styloid of the ulna bone using a k-wire.
