Abstract

A capsule-based beverage production machine that comprises a module designed for producing a beverage on the basis of ingredients which are contained in a capsule. The module comprises: means for retaining the capsule in a fixed position, and means for perforation of the capsule, wherein the perforation means are controlled to perforate the capsule after the capsule is retained in the fixed position by the retaining means.

Claims (24)

1. A beverage production machine designed for producing a beverage from a capsule, the beverage production machine having a module comprising:

a casing having lateral walls;

an actuator mechanism; and

a first capsule engagement member and so second capsule engagement member cooperating with the first capsule engagement member, the first capsule engagement member being so constructed and arranged to be displaced relative to the second capsule engagement member between an opened capsule-insertion position and a closed capsule-engagement position by means of the actuator mechanism, wherein the module is designed for injecting water into a capsule and draining a beverage from the capsule while the capsule is in a beverage production position,

wherein the first engagement member comprises a guiding pin,

wherein the actuator mechanism comprises a first guiding curve designed to co-operate with the guiding pin to selectively displace the first engagement member,

wherein the first guiding curve is composed of a first linear section and a second linear section, the second linear section being shorter than the first linear section and forming an obtuse angle with respect to the first linear section, and

wherein the lateral walls of the casing comprise a second guiding curve, wherein the guiding pin is so constructed and arranged to co-operate with the second guiding curve to carry out a relative displacement of the first capsule engagement member relative to the second capsule engagement member comprising (i) a linear displacement of the first capsule engagement member relative to the second capsule engagement member when the first and second capsule engagement members are close together, and (ii) a swivelling movement of the first capsule engagement member relative to the second capsule engagement member when the first and second capsule engagement members are distanced from each other.

2. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the actuator mechanism comprises an actuator so constructed and arranged to act on a knee-joint mechanism, wherein an extremity of the actuator mechanism at an opposite end of the actuator comprises the first control curve.

3. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement member has a shape of a hollow bell member and is provided with a perforation member.

4. The machine of claim 3 , wherein a rear end of the first engagement member is provided with a liquid supply that is in fluid connection with the perforation member.

5. The machine of claim 4 , wherein the first engagement member further comprises a U-shaped support member which in its centre portion supports the perforation member and the fluid supply, and wherein the U-shaped support member comprises a control pin so constructed and arranged to co-operate with an axial slot provided at each side surface of the hollow bell member to carry out a linear displacement of the U-shaped support member and a displacement of the perforation member attached to the U-shaped support member.

6. The machine of claim 5 , wherein the U-shaped support member comprises two outer legs.

7. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the second guiding curve is composed of at least first and second segments that are different.

8. The machine of claim 7 , wherein the first segment is an essentially horizontal linear segment and the second segment is an inclined linear segment being raised to the rear end of the module.

9. The machine of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement member is connected to a lever handle of the actuator mechanism by means of a knee-joint mechanism comprising several axes and intermediate levers.

10. A beverage production system comprising a capsule containing ingredients and a module comprising:

a casing having lateral walls;

an actuator mechanism; and

a first capsule engagement member and a second, capsule engagement member co-operating with the first capsule engagement member, the first capsule engagement member being so constructed and arranged to be displaced relative to the second capsule engagement member between an opened capsule-insertion position and a closed capsule-engagement position by means of the actuator mechanism, wherein the module is designed for injecting water into a capsule and draining a beverage from the capsule while the capsule is in a beverage production position,

wherein the first engagement member comprises a guiding pin,

wherein the actuator mechanism comprises a first guiding curve designed to co-operate with the guiding pin to selectively displace the first engagement member,

wherein the first guiding curve is composed of a first linear section and a second linear section, the second linear section being shorter than the first linear section and forming an obtuse angle with respect to the first linear section, and

wherein the lateral walls of the casing comprise a second guiding curve, wherein the guiding pin is so constructed and arranged to co-operate with the second guiding curve to carry out a relative displacement of the first capsule engagement member relative to the second capsule engagement member comprising (i) a linear displacement of the first capsule engagement member relative to the second capsule engagement member when the first and second capsule engagement members are close together, and (ii) a swivelling movement of the first and second capsule engagement members are distanced from each other.
