Abstract

Air brake tubing is provided having an air brake tube body comprising at least one layer formed from a composition comprising a copolyester, polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate; and a thermoplastic polyurethane.

Claims (36)

1. An air brake tubing comprising:

an air brake tube body comprising one layer formed from a composition comprising

about 40-55% by weight of copolyester;

about 40-55% by weight thermoplastic polyurethane; and

about 0-15 wt % polyamide, wherein the air brake tubing has a mono-wall, single layer construction.

2. The air brake tubing of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises 0-10 wt % polyamide.

3. The air brake tubing of claim 1 , wherein the air brake tubing is capable of meeting the performance requirements of SAE J844, SAE J2547 and DOT FMVSS 106.

4. The air brake tubing of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises about 45-55 wt % copolyester.

5. The air brake tubing of claim 4 , wherein the copolyester is selected from one or more thermoplastic copolyester elastomers exhibiting hardness of from 63D-74D on the Shore scale.

6. Tubing suitable for use in pneumatic or hydraulic applications, the tubing formed from a composition comprising about 40-55% by weight copolyester; and about 40-55% by weight thermoplastic polyurethane, wherein the tubing has a mono-wall, single layer construction.

7. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein the tubing is capable of meeting the performance requirements of at least one of SAE J844, SAE J2547 and DOT FMVSS 106.

8. The tubing of claim 7 , wherein the tubing is an air brake hose capable of meeting the performance requirements of SAE J844, SAE J2547 and DOT FMVSS 106.

9. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein the tubing is formed from a composition comprising about 45-55% by weight copolyester.

10. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein the copolyester is selected from one or more thermoplastic copolyester elastomers exhibiting hardness of from 63D-74D on the Shore scale.

11. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein the tubing is formed from a composition comprising about 40-50% by weight thermoplastic polyurethane.

12. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein thermoplastic polyurethane exhibits a hardness of about 60D-70D on the Shore scale.

13. The tubing of claim 6 , wherein the composition further comprises about 0-15% by weight polyamide.

14. The tubing of claim 13 , wherein the composition comprises about 0-10 % by weight polyamide.

15. The tubing of claim 13 , wherein the composition comprises about 5-10% by weight polyamide.

16. The air brake tubing of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a blend, alloy or copolymer.

17. An air brake tubing comprising:

an air brake tube body comprising one layer formed from a composition comprising

30-60 wt % by weight copolyester; and

30-60 wt % by weight thermoplastic polyurethane; and

0-15 wt % polyamide, wherein the air brake tubing has a mono-wall, single layer construction.

18. The air brake tubing of claim 17 , wherein the composition comprises 0-10 wt % polyamide.

19. The air brake tubing of claim 18 , wherein the air brake tubing is capable of meeting the performance requirements of SAE J844, SAE J2547 and DOT FMVSS 106.

20. The air brake tubing of claim 1 , wherein the copolyester is a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer.

21. An air brake tubing comprising:

an air brake tube body comprising a layer formed from a composition comprising

about 40-55% by weight of a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer;

about 40-55% by weight thermoplastic polyurethane; and

about 0-15 wt % polyamide, wherein the air brake tubing is capable of meeting the performance requirements of SAE J844, SAE J2547 and DOT FMVSS 106, and wherein the air brake tubing has a mono-wall, single layer construction.

22. The air brake tubing of claim 21 , wherein the thermoplastic copolyester elastomer is selected from a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer having a hardness selected from 63D to 74D on the Shore scale.

23. The air brake tubing of claim 21 , wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane is a polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethane with a hardness selected from 60D to 70D on the Shore scale.

24. The air brake tubing of claim 21 , wherein the outer diameter (O.D.) of the air brake tubing is selected from the group consisting of ⅛ inch, 5/32 inch, 3/16 inch, ¼ inch, 5/16 inch, ⅜ inch, ½ inch, ⅝ inch and ¾ inch.
