Abstract

Methods, systems and media are provided. One system includes a video source configured to provide a streaming video to a first client geographically remote from the video source. The system generates a streaming video at the video source responsive to a present game state of a computer game program. The system further includes a download manager configured to dynamically determine, responsive to the present game state of the computer game program, a download sequence of a plurality of parts of an executable content of the computer game program. The download manager is configured to download parts of the executable content according to the download sequence in parallel with the streaming video provided to the first client from the video source. The download manager is further configured to modify the download sequence based on probabilities of other game states of the computer game program being reached from the present game state.

Claims (35)

1. A system including a processor, comprising:

a video source configured to provide a streaming video to a first client geographically remote from the video source, the streaming video being compressed by an encoder of the video source;

the video source generating the streaming video that is generated at the video source responsive to a present game state of a computer game program; and

a download manager configured to dynamically determine, responsive to the present game state of the computer game program, a download sequence of a plurality of parts of an executable content of the computer game program, the download manager configured to download parts of the executable content according to the download sequence in parallel with the streaming video provided to the first client from the video source, the download manager configured to modify the download sequence based on probabilities of other game states of the computer game program being reached from the present game state.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the download manager further configured to modify the download sequence based information of which resources will be required in those other game states.

3. The System of claim 1 , wherein the download manager to download parts of the executable content from a code source to the first client via a network.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the present game state of the computer game program is defined based on one or more game control commands received from the first client.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video source is configured to produce the streaming video using a graphic processing unit.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the present game state of the computer game program is dependent on commands received from the first client and/or from a second client.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer game program is a computer game and the streaming video is rendered at the video source from a three dimensional game environment.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the download manager is provides greater priority to providing the streaming video to the first client relative to providing the executable content to the first client.

9. The system of claim 3 , wherein the download manager is configured to provide the executable content at a bit rate that is dependent on a bandwidth of a communication channel between the code source and the first client.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the download manager is configured to download the executable content to the first client at a rate that is limited by a rate at which the streaming video is provided to meet a predefined quality of the streaming video as displayed on the first client.

11. The system of claim 1 , further comprising,

a statistics engine configured to maintain a probability tree database to define the probabilities.

12. A system including a processor, comprising:

a video source configured to provide a streaming video to a first client geographically remote from the video source, the streaming video being compressed by an encoder of the video source;

the video source generating the streaming video that is generated at the video source responsive to a present game state of a computer game program;

a download manager configured to dynamically determine, responsive to the present game state of the computer game program, a download sequence of a plurality of parts of an executable content of the computer game program, the download manager configured to download parts of the executable content according to the download sequence in parallel with the streaming video provided to the first client from the video source; and

transition logic for transitioning from a server side mode of game execution during the streaming to a client side mode of game execution in which game logic is executed on the client to render the video stream based on the game state.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the transition logic provides the parts of the executable game code to the client after initiating the transition.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the transition is performed according to the download sequence.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein after transitioning, dynamically determining the download sequence responsive to the game state.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the download manager is configured to modify the download sequence based on probabilities of other game states of the computer game program being reached from the present game state.

17. The system of claim 16 , further comprising,

a statistics engine configured to maintain a probability tree database to define the probabilities.

18. The system of claim 12 , wherein the present game state of the computer game program is dependent on commands received from the first client and/or from a second client.

19. A method comprising:

providing a video source configured to provide a streaming video to a first client geographically remote from the video source, the streaming video being compressed by an encoder of the video source, the video source generating the streaming video that is generated at the video source responsive to a present game state of a computer game program;

managing download of the computer game program, during downloading, dynamically determining, based on the present game state of the computer game program, a download sequence of a plurality of parts of an executable content of the computer game program, and downloading parts of the executable content according to the download sequence in parallel with the streaming video provided to the first client from the video source;

transitioning from a server side mode of game execution during the streaming to a client side mode of game execution in which game logic is executed on the client to render the video stream based on the game state; and

during the managing of download, modifying the download sequence based on probabilities of other game states of the computer game program being reached from the present game state, the method being executed by a processor.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising,

maintaining a probability tree database to define the probabilities, and

wherein the present game state of the computer game program is dependent on commands received from the first client and/or from a second client.
