Abstract

An image transfer article can include an image-imparting member and a removable substrate disposed adjacent to the image-imparting member. The image-imparting member can have a softening point temperature less than about 220° C. The image-imparting member can include at least one surface configured to receive and carry indicia to be transferred and at least one portion comprising a pigment providing an opaque background for received indicia. In some examples, the image-imparting member can comprise a first polymer including the indicia and at least a second polymer including the pigment. In some examples, the image-imparting member can comprise a polymer including the indicia and the pigment. The indicia and the opaque background can be arranged to concurrently transfer to a woven- or fabric-based article or paper in contact with the image-imparting member, upon application of iron pressing temperatures.

Claims (29)

1. An image transfer article, comprising:

an image-imparting member comprising at least an ink-receptive layer and a background layer beneath the ink-receptive layer, the ink-receptive layer being of a composition for receiving an ink or toner based image, and the background layer comprising a pigment to provide a pigmented background above which the ink or toner based image is received;

an adhesive layer beneath the background layer; and

a removable substrate beneath the adhesive layer and removable from at least the image-imparting member and adhesive layer.

2. The article of claim 1 , wherein the image-imparting member has a melt index between 10 and 3500.

3. The article of claim 1 , wherein the removable substrate includes at least one coating comprising clay, a polymer, a resin, or silicone.

4. The article of claim 1 , wherein the removable substrate is configured to receive a temperature between about 200° F. and about 400° F. to facilitate transfer of the image-imparting member to an image-receiving article.

5. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pigment comprises a luminescent pigment that glows at night or in a dark environment.

6. The article of claim 5 , wherein the luminescent pigment is excitable by daylight, artificial radiation, fluorescent light, fluorescent radiation, infrared (IR) light, IR radiation, IR light, ultra-violet (UV) light, or UV radiation.

7. The article of claim 5 , wherein the pigmented background provides a luminescent region surrounding at least a portion of the ink or toner based image.

8. A kit, comprising:

the article of claim 1 ; and

instructions for using the article.

9. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pigment comprises a white pigment.

10. The article of claim 9 , wherein the pigmented background is white.

11. The article of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive layer comprises at least one of ethylene acrylic acid and ethylene vinyl acetate.

12. An image transfer article, comprising:

an ink-receptive layer being of a composition for receiving an ink or toner based image;

one or more layers beneath the ink-receptive layer, the one or more layers comprising a pigment to provide a pigmented background over which the ink or toner based image is received and a polymeric adhesive; and

a removable substrate beneath the one or more layers beneath the ink-receptive layer and removable from at least the ink-receptive layer and one or more layers beneath the ink-receptive layer;

wherein the ink-receptive layer and the one or more layers beneath the ink-receptive layer and above the removable substrate are concurrently transferrable to an image-receiving article when they are, as a unit, placed in contact with the image-receiving article and heat is applied thereto.

13. The article of claim 12 , wherein the one or more layers comprising a pigment have a melt index between 10 and 3500.

14. The article of claim 12 , wherein the removable substrate includes at least one coating comprising clay, a polymer, a resin, or silicone.

15. The article of claim 12 , wherein the removable substrate is configured to receive a temperature between about 200° F. and about 400° F. to facilitate transfer of the ink-receptive layer and the one or more layers beneath the ink-receptive layer to the image-receiving article.

16. The article of claim 12 , wherein the pigment comprises a luminescent pigment that glows at night or in a dark environment.

17. The article of claim 16 , wherein the luminescent pigment is excitable by daylight, artificial radiation, fluorescent light, fluorescent radiation, infrared (IR) light, IR radiation, IR light, ultra-violet (UV) light, or UV radiation.

18. The article of claim 16 , wherein the pigmented background provides a luminescent background surrounding at least a portion of the ink or toner based image.

19. The article of claim 12 , wherein the pigment comprises a white pigment.

20. The article of claim 19 , wherein the pigmented background is white.
