Interface circuitry with JTAG interface, full and reduced pin interfaces
The disclosure describes a process and apparatus for accessing devices on a substrate. The substrate may include only full pin JTAG devices ( 504 ), only reduced pin JTAG devices ( 506 ), or a mixture of both full pin and reduced pin JTAG devices. The access is accomplished using a single interface ( 502 ) between the substrate ( 408 ) and a JTAG controller ( 404 ). The access interface may be a wired interface or a wireless interface and may be used for JTAG based device testing, debugging, programming, or other type of JTAG based operation.
1. A substrate comprising:
A. a full pin device having a full pin interface that includes a test data in lead, a test clock lead, a test mode select lead, and a test data out lead;
B. a reduced pin device having a reduced pin interface, the reduced pin interface having no more than two leads, of which one is a data input and output lead; and
C. interface circuitry including:
i. addressable interface circuitry having an interface bus that includes a test data input, a test clock input, a test mode select input, a test data output, and an internal bus that includes a test data output, a test clock output, a test mode select output, a test data input, a full pin select output, and a reduced pin select output;
ii. full pin interface circuitry having a full pin interface bus coupled to the full pin interface of the full pin device, having an internal bus coupled to the internal bus of the addressable interface circuitry, and having a full pin select input coupled to the full pin select output; and
iii. reduced pin interface circuitry having a reduced pin interface bus coupled to the reduced pin interface of the reduced pin device, having an internal bus coupled to the internal bus of the addressable interface circuitry, and having a reduced pin select input coupled to the reduced pin select output.
2. The substrate of claim 1 in which the reduced pin interfaces have only a data input and output lead.
3. The substrate of claim 1 in which the reduced pin interfaces have a clock lead and a data input and output lead.
4. The substrate of claim 1 in which there are plural full pin devices, each having a full pin interface, and the full pin interface circuitry includes a separate full pin interface bus connected with each full pin device.
5. The substrate of claim 1 in which there are plural reduced pin devices, each having a reduced pin interface, and the reduced pin interface circuitry includes a separate reduced pin interface bus connected with each reduced pin device.
6. The substrate of claim 1 in which the substrate is one of a system, a circuit board, or an integrated circuit.
