Abstract

Methods and systems for proactively preventing hazardous or other situations in a robot-cloud interaction are provided. An example method includes receiving information associated with task logs for a plurality of robotic devices. The task logs may include information associated with tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices. The method may also include a computing system determining information associated with hazardous situations based on the information associated with the task logs. For example, the hazardous situations may comprise situations associated with failures of one or more components of the plurality of robotic devices. According to the method, information associated with a contextual situation of a first robotic device may be determined, and when the information associated with the contextual situation is consistent with information associated with the one or more hazardous situations, an alert indicating a potential failure of the first robotic device may be provided.

determining, based on the situations and the task logs, a modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, based on the situations and the task logs, the modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance comprises determining a modification that reduces an expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for the particular component.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein determining the modification that reduces the expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for the particular component comprises:

determining, based on the task logs and the situations, a failure rate over time for the particular component;

determining, based on the failure rate over time, a second expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for another time; and

upon determining that the second expected sum is less than the first expected sum, replacing the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance with the other time.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein corrective replacement costs comprise costs incurred due to failure of the particular component prior to preventative maintenance, and wherein preventative maintenance costs comprise costs of performing preventative maintenance for the particular component.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing preventative maintenance for at least one of the plurality of robotic devices in accordance with the determined modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for maintenance.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information indicative of the tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices comprises health levels of the plurality of robotic devices at a time of performance of the tasks, and wherein determining the situations comprises determining respective health levels of the robotic devices experiencing the unexpected operations.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information indicative of the tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices comprises indications of whether individual tasks were completed by respective robotic devices with an amount of error that satisfies a particular amount of tolerance.

8. A system comprising:

a plurality of robotic devices configured to transmit via a network task logs comprising information indicative of tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices; and

a computing component, comprising a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the computing component is capable of communicating with the plurality of robotic devices over the network, the computing component configured to perform functions comprising:

receiving task logs from the plurality of robotic devices,

determining situations involving unexpected operation of one or more components of the plurality of robotic devices,

determining preventative maintenance information for the plurality of robotic devices, wherein the preventative maintenance information comprises an indication of a time when a particular component of the plurality of robotic devices is scheduled for preventative maintenance, and

determining, based on the situations and the task logs, a modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein determining, based on the situations and the task logs, the modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance comprises determining a modification that reduces an expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for the particular component.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein determining the modification that reduces the expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for the particular component comprises:

determining, based on the task logs and the situations, a failure rate over time for the particular component;

determining, based on the failure rate over time, a first expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance;

determining, based on the failure rate over time, a second expected sum of corrective replacement costs and preventative maintenance costs for another time; and

upon determining that the second expected sum is less than the first expected sum, replacing the time when the particular component is scheduled for preventative maintenance with the other time.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein corrective replacement costs comprise costs incurred due to failure of the particular component prior to preventative maintenance, and wherein preventative maintenance costs comprise costs of performing preventative maintenance for the particular component.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the functions further comprise performing preventative maintenance for at least one of the plurality of robotic devices in accordance with the determined modification to the time when the particular component is scheduled for maintenance.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the information indicative of the tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices comprises health levels of the plurality of robotic devices at a time of performance of the tasks, and wherein determining the situations comprises determining respective health levels of the robotic devices experiencing the unexpected operations.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the information indicative of the tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices comprises indications of whether individual tasks were completed by respective robotic devices with an amount of error that satisfies a particular amount of tolerance.

15. A method comprising:

receiving task logs for a plurality of robotic devices, wherein the task logs comprise information indicative of tasks performed by the plurality of robotic devices;

determining, using a computing system and based on the task logs, situations involving unexpected operation of one or more components of the plurality of robotic devices;

determining a contextual situation of a particular robotic device of the plurality of robotic devices; and

upon detecting that the contextual situation of the particular robotic device is consistent with one of the situations, determining a modification to a time when a component of the particular robotic device is scheduled for preventative maintenance.
