Abstract

A system for mounting a secondary panel within a window frame of an existing window. The system includes a rigid panel, an elongated deformable bulb, and an elongated carrier. The bulb has a resilient, rounded portion and a base section with at least one tongue extending from the base section. The carrier is configured to receive at least a portion of an edge of the panel within a panel gap and to receive, between opposing resilient prongs, the tongue of the bulb. The resilient prongs are configured to diverge to allow a distal end of the tongue to pass between the resilient prongs. Also disclosed is a system for mounting a flexible sheet within a window frame of an existing window.

Claims (15)

1. A system for mounting a flexible sheet within a window frame of an existing window in a building, the system comprising:

a flexible sheet;

an elongated, compressible bulb having a resilient, rounded portion and a base section, the base section having at least one tongue extending from the base section;

an elongated frame having at least one channel having opposing, resilient prongs, the at least one channel configured to securely receive, between the resilient prongs, the at least one tongue of the bulb, the resilient prongs configured to diverge to allow a distal end of the at least one tongue to pass between the resilient prongs, the frame further having an arm extending from the frame; and

an elongated receiver having a gap, the receiver configured to securely accept at least a portion of the arm within the gap and to pinch a portion of the flexible sheet between the arm and the receiver within the gap.

2. The system of claim 1 , in which the flexible sheet is a plastic film.

3. The system of claim 1 , in which the flexible sheet is a screen.

4. The system of claim 1 , in which the gap further includes yieldable nubs within the gap, the nubs structured to position the arm and the flexible sheet within the gap.

5. The system of claim 1 , in which the arm further includes a protrusion extending at a non-parallel angle from the arm, the protrusion configured to extend into the gap of the receiver.

6. The system of claim 5 , in which the protrusion has a rounded tip configured to extend into and interlock with the gap of the receiver.

7. The system of claim 1 , in which the at least one tongue is a pair of tongues extending from the base section of the bulb, and in which the at least one channel of the frame is a pair of channels, where each channel is configured to securely receive one of the pair of tongues between the resilient prongs of the channel.

8. The system of claim 7 , in which the base section of the bulb includes a horizontal face and the frame includes a top face, in which, when the pair of tongues is securely received into the pair of channels, the horizontal face of the bulb contacts the top face of the frame.

9. The system of claim 7 , in which the each of the pair of tongues includes shoulders at the distal end of the tongue, the shoulders configured to interlock with edges at distal ends of the resilient prongs.

10. The system of claim 7 , in which the bulb further includes friction ribs configured to increase friction between the bulb and the window frame.

11. The system of claim 7 , in which the bulb has a pentagonal cross section.
