Abstract

System and method for handling a transaction between a waiting party and queuing party include an independent communication system (ICS) managing calls between the waiting party and calling party for handling sensitive data as well as call-attached data. The ICS manages the transaction in different stages and with different levels of sensitivity. Either party is allowed to modify the call or call preferences during the transaction. The ICS works independently from the queuing party calling system.

Claims (30)

1. A method performed by a virtual queuing system for replacing hold time with a call-back in a call between a waiting party and a queuing party having a queuing calling system and a plurality of agent queues, the method comprising:

allocating a plurality of VoIP connections, over a protected network, from the virtual queuing system to the plurality of agent queues;

receiving a call, between the waiting party and the queuing party, and transferred onto the virtual queuing system from the queuing calling system over a PSTN line;

identifying an agent queue from the plurality of agent queues based on the call;

communicating to the virtual queuing system over a VoIP connection allocated to the agent queue to determine when an agent at the agent queue is available; and

connecting the agent to the waiting party.

2. The method of claim 1 , further managing the call in different phases with different levels of sensitivity and wherein encryption is used only during certain phases.

3. The method of claim 1 , further allowing the waiting party to schedule a call-back from the queuing party.

4. The method of claim 1 , further allowing the queuing party and the waiting party to modify the call, while queuing is in progress.

5. The method of claim 4 , further allowing the waiting party to change a call-back address or reschedule a call-back.

6. The method of claim 1 , further allowing the waiting party to schedule the call-back from the queuing party for a time range in the future.

7. The method of claim 1 , further maintaining call-attached data during the call-back, and wherein the call-attached data comprise data attached by the virtual queuing system to an initial call from the waiting party.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the call-attached data comprise any private data provided by the waiting party.

9. The method of claim 7 , further maintaining the call-attached data by using a data channel of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

10. The method of claim 7 , further maintaining the call-attached data by storing the call-attached data as a record in a database and using caller ID features of a public switched telephone network (PSTN) as a key to access an appropriate record at a later time.

11. A virtual queuing system configured for replacing hold time with a call-back in a call between a waiting party and a queuing party having a queuing calling system and a plurality of agent queues, the virtual queuing system comprising:

a plurality of VoIP connections, over a protected network, from the virtual queuing system to the plurality of agent queues;

a PSTN connection configured for receiving a call, between the waiting party and the queuing party, and transferred onto the virtual queuing system from the queuing calling system;

a processor configured for identifying an agent queue from the plurality of agent queues based on the call;

a communication module configured for communicating to the virtual queuing system over a VoIP connection allocated to the agent queue to determine when an agent at the agent queue is available; and

a call-back module configured for connecting the agent to the waiting party.

12. The ICS of claim 11 , wherein the virtual queuing system is further configured to manage the transaction in different phases with different levels of sensitivity, wherein encryption is used only during certain phases.

13. The ICS of claim 11 , wherein the queuing party and the waiting party are allowed to modify the transaction while virtual queuing is in progress.

14. The ICS of claim 13 , wherein the waiting party is allowed to change a call-back address or reschedule the call-back.

15. The virtual queuing system of claim 11 , further configured for allowing the waiting party to schedule the call-back from the queuing party through the ICS.

16. The virtual queuing system of claim 15 , further configured to schedule the call-back from the queuing party to the waiting party for a time range in the future.

17. The virtual queuing system of claim 11 , further configured to maintain call-attached data during the call-back, and wherein the call-attached data comprises data attached by the virtual queuing system to an initial call from the waiting party.

18. The virtual queuing system of claim 11 , further configured for allowing the call-attached data to comprise any private data provided by the waiting party.

19. The virtual queuing system of claim 11 , further configured to maintain call-attached data by using the data channel of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

20. The virtual queuing system of claim 11 , further configured to maintain the call-attached data by storing the call-attached data as a record in a database and uses the caller ID features of a public switched telephone network (PSTN) as a key to access an appropriate record at a later time.
