Abstract

A medical device includes a clip having first and second arms biased toward an open configuration; a control wire removably connected to the clip, the control wire configured to control movement of the clip between an open configuration and a closed configuration; a separable yoke connecting the control wire to the clip, the yoke configured to be separated by a predetermined force applied by the control wire so that, when the yoke is separated, the control wire and the yoke uncouple from the clip; an elongated sheath housing the control wire; a handle coupled to the elongated sheath; and an actuator coupled to the control wire and configured to open the clip arms, close the clip arms and uncouple the clip from the control wire.

Claims (36)

1. A medical device, comprising:

a clip having first and second arms biased toward an open configuration;

a control wire removably connected to the clip, the control wire configured to control movement of the clip between an open configuration and a closed configuration;

a separable yoke connecting the control wire to the clip, the yoke configured to be separated by a predetermined force applied by the control wire so that, when the yoke is separated, the control wire and the yoke uncouple from the clip;

an elongated sheath housing the control wire;

a handle coupled to the elongated sheath; and

an actuator coupled to the control wire and configured to open the clip arms, close the clip arms and uncouple the clip from the control wire.

2. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a capsule removably housing a portion of the clip therein, wherein movement of the control wire distally causes the clip to move distally relative to the capsule and move to the open configuration.

3. The medical device of claim 2 , wherein movement of the control wire proximally causes the clip to move proximally into the capsule, the proximal movement causing the clip to move to the closed configuration wherein the first and second clip arms are drawn toward one another.

4. The medical device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a locking arrangement provided in the capsule, the locking arrangement being configured to lock the clip against the capsule in the closed configuration.

5. The medical device of claim 2 , wherein before the clip is separated from the control wire, moving the control wire in a distal direction pushes the clip out of the capsule, opening the arms.

6. The medical device of claim 2 , further comprising:

folding tabs extending from a distal end of the capsule, the folding tabs being positioned between the first and second arms to provide a cam surface as the clip extends distally out of the capsule.

7. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a spring portion configured to bias the control wire to a desired position.

8. The medical device of claim 7 , wherein the spring portion biases the control wire to a proximal position corresponding to a closed configuration of the clip.

9. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein when the first and second arms are in an open configuration, proximal ends of the first and second arms are positioned under the yoke, the yoke constraining movement of the first and second arms.

10. The medical device of claim 9 , wherein opposite sides of the yoke are pulled away from a tension member received between the sides of the yoke to sever the connector.

11. The medical device of claim 10 , wherein the tension member received between the sides of the yoke is a tension member coupled to the clip.

12. The medical device of claim 11 , wherein the tension member comprises a projection received between sides of the yoke.

13. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the yoke is coupled to the control wire.

14. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a capsule removably housing a portion of the clip therein, wherein the capsule include a member at a distal end thereof that projects between arms of the clip to spread the arms apart from one another as the clip is extended distally from the capsule.

15. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the control wire is received within a socket of the yoke.

16. The medical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a capsule removably housing a portion of the clip therein, wherein a tension member received between arms of the clips biases the clip arms apart so that, as the actuator is moved distally the clip arms move distally out of the capsule and spread apart from one another due to the influence of the tension member.

17. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the yoke includes a ball cavity configured to receive a ball connector therein.

18. A medical device, comprising:

a clip having first and second arms biased toward an open configuration;

a control wire removably connected to the clip, the control wire configured to control movement of the clip between an open configuration and a closed configuration;

a connector between the control wire and the clip, the connector configured to be separated by a predetermined force applied by the control wire so that, when the connector is separated, the control wire and the connector uncouple from the clip;

an elongated sheath housing the control wire; and

an actuator coupled to the control wire and configured to open the clip arms, close the clip arms and uncouple the clip from the control wire.

19. The medical device of claim 18 , wherein connector is configured to separate to provide a first user feedback indicating separation of the clip from the control wire.
