Abstract

A load driving device disclosed in the specification includes a power supply circuit for supplying to a load an output voltage converted from an input voltage, a detection voltage generation circuit for generating a detection voltage which varies depending on a magnitude of a voltage drop which across the load, and a control circuit for controlling the power supply circuit so that it performs output feedback control of the output voltage, on the basis of the detection voltage.

Claims (45)

1. A controller device, comprising:

a control circuit configured to control a switching power supply circuit that comprises a coil, wherein said power supply circuit is configured to supply to parallel loads a common output voltage by converting an input voltage,

wherein said control circuit is configured to be fed with a reference voltage;

a first detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across one of current adjusting portions is configured to be connected one in series with each of said loads; and

a second detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across another of said current adjusting portions, is configured for controlling the power supply circuit output voltage so as to equalize only the lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage to said reference voltage,

wherein said control circuit comprises:

a switch configured to switch power to the coil on and off,

an error amplifier configured to compare a lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage with said reference voltage and output an error signal, and

a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control circuit configured to generate a PWM signal based on said error signal, wherein said PWM signal is provided as a switching signal for controlling the switching of said switch.

2. The controller device according to claim 1 , wherein said loads are light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

3. The controller device according to claim 1 , wherein said switch is an N-type MOS transistor.

4. The controller device according to claim 3 ,

wherein first ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be coupled to a node having a predetermined constant voltage, and

second ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be each coupled to a corresponding one of a plurality of non-inverting input terminals of said error amplifier.

5. The controller device according to claim 4 , wherein said loads are LEDs.

6. The controller device according to claim 5 , wherein said second ends of said current adjusting portions are each configured to be coupled to a cathode of a corresponding one of said LEDs.

7. An integrated circuit controller device configured to control a switching power supply circuit that comprises a coil to provide a common output voltage to parallel loads, said controller device comprising:

a control circuit configured to have respective inputs for operably receiving a reference voltage;

a first detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across one of current adjusting portions configured to be connected one in series with each of said loads; and

a second detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across another of said current adjusting portions, and configured to have an output for operably controlling the power supply circuit output voltage to equalize only a lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage to said reference voltage,

wherein said control circuit comprises:

a switch configured to switch power to the coil on and off,

an error amplifier configured to compare a lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage with said reference voltage and output an error signal, and

a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control circuit configured to generate a PWM signal based on said error signal, wherein said PWM signal is configured for controlling the switching of said switch.

8. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 7 ,

wherein first ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be coupled to a node having a predetermined constant voltage, and

second ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be each coupled to a corresponding one of a plurality of input terminals of said error amplifier.

9. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 8 , wherein each of said current adjusting portions is configured to be adjustable in magnitude of its provided current.

10. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 8 ,

wherein said parallel loads are light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and

said second ends of said current adjusting portions are each configured to be coupled to a cathode of a corresponding one of said LEDs.

11. A controller device configured to control a switching power supply circuit having a coil, said switching power supply circuit configured to supply a common output voltage to parallel loads, said controller device comprising:

a control circuit configured to have respective inputs for operably receiving a reference voltage;

a first detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across one of current adjusting portions configured to be connected one in series with each of said loads; and

a second detection voltage indicative of a voltage drop across another of said current adjusting portions, and configured to have a switch output for operably switching on and off power to the coil to control the switching power supply circuit output voltage to equalize only a lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage to said reference voltage,

wherein said control circuit comprises:

a switch configured to switch power to the coil on and off,

an error amplifier configured to compare a lower one of said first detection voltage and said second detection voltage with said reference voltage and output an error signal, and

a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control circuit configured to generate a PWM signal based on said error signal, wherein said PWM signal is configured for controlling the switch output.

12. The controller device according to claim 11 , wherein said parallel loads are parallel strings of one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

13. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 11 ,

wherein first ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be coupled to a node having a predetermined constant voltage, and

second ends of said current adjusting portions are configured to be each coupled to a corresponding one of a plurality of input terminals of said error amplifier.

14. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 13 , wherein each of said current adjusting portions is configured to be adjustable in magnitude of its provided current.

15. The integrated circuit controller device according to claim 13 , wherein said parallel loads are parallel strings of one or more LEDs, and said second ends of said current adjusting portions are each configured to be coupled to a cathode of an LED within a corresponding one of said strings.
