Abstract

Systems, circuits, and methods are disclosed for charge sharing. In one such example system, a first line is configured to be driven to a first voltage representative of data to be placed on the first line and then precharged to a first precharge voltage. A second line is configured to be driven to a second voltage representative of data to be placed on the second line and then precharged to a second precharge voltage. A charge sharing device is coupled between the first line and the second line. The charge sharing device is configured to selectively allow charge from the first line to flow to the second line after the first and second lines are driven to the respective first and second voltages representative of data to be placed on the respective lines.

Claims (32)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a first line;

a second line;

a charge sharing device configured to cause the first line and the second line to share charges with each other during a first period of time; and

a precharge device configured to precharge the first line and the second line during a second period of time;

wherein the second period of time is initiated after initiation and before termination of the first period of time and terminated after termination of the first period of time.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a first driver and a second driver configured to drive the first line and a second line, respectively, during a third period of time terminated before initiation of the first period of time.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the charge sharing device comprises a first transistor coupled between the first line and the second line.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the precharge device comprises a second transistor coupled to the first line, the first transistor and the second transistor being configured to be controlled by a first control signal and a second control signal that is produced responsively to the first control signal, respectively.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the precharge device further comprises a third transistor coupled to the second line, the third transistor being configured to be controlled by a third control signal produced responsively to the first control signal.

6. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein each of the first transistor and the second transistor comprises an n-channel field effect transistor.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein each of the first transistor and the second transistor comprises an n-channel field effect transistor and the third transistor comprises p-channel field effect transistor.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

first and second lines;

first and second drivers configured to respectively drive the first and second lines to produce a first voltage between the first and second lines;

a charge sharing device configured to couple the first and second lines to decrease the first voltage between the first and second lines to a second voltage; and

a precharge device configured to couple the first and second lines to first and second voltage terminals, respectively, to increase the second voltage between the first and second lines to a third voltage.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a memory array, wherein the first and second drivers are configured to respectively drive the first and second lines responsively to data from the memory array.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the charge sharing device is configured to couple the first and second lines when the first and second drivers do not drive the first and second lines.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the precharge device is configured to couple the first and second lines to the first and second voltage terminals, respectively, when the first and second drivers do not drive the first and second lines.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the precharge device is configured to couple the first and second lines to the first and second voltage terminals, respectively, when the charge sharing device couples the first and second lines.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the third voltage is substantially the same as the first voltage.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the charge sharing device is configured to be controlled by a first control signal and the precharge device is configured to be controlled by a second control signal produced responsively to the first control signal.

15. A method, comprising:

driving first and second lines to produce a first voltage between the first and second lines;

sharing charge between the first and second lines to decrease the first voltage between the first and second lines from to a second voltage; and

precharging the first and second lines to increase the second voltage between the first and second lines from to a third voltage.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein driving first and second lines is performed without overlapping sharing charge between the first and second lines.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein driving first and second lines is initiated when each of sharing charge between the first and second lines and precharging the first and second lines is not performed.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein precharging the first and second lines is initiated when sharing charge between the first and second lines is performed.

19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the third voltage is substantially the same as the first voltage.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising producing a first control signal to activate sharing charge between the first and second lines and producing a second control signal to activate precharging the first and second lines, the second control signal being produced responsively to the first control signal.
