Abstract

Wireless-enabled loudspeaker includes a wooden capacitive touch user interface. The loudspeaker may comprise at least one electroacoustic transducer, a processor in communication with the at least one electroacoustic transducer, and a wooden exterior surface comprising a capacitive touch user interface that allows a user to control operation of the loudspeaker. The wooden exterior surface acts a dielectric for the capacitive touch user interface. The loudspeaker may comprise a wireless transceiver circuit for receiving and transmitting wireless communication signals via a wireless network. The wireless transceiver circuit may receive wirelessly audio content from streaming audio content servers that are connected to the Internet. The capacitive touch user interface comprises a plurality of user control icons etched in the wooden exterior surface, and a plurality of capacitive sense electrodes located under the wooden exterior surface.

Claims (36)

1. A loudspeaker comprising:

at least one electroacoustic transducer for producing audible sound;

a processor in communication with the at least one electroacoustic transducer;

a wireless transceiver circuit in communication with the processor, wherein the wireless transceiver circuit is for receiving and transmitting wireless communication signals via a wireless network; and

a wooden exterior surface comprising a capacitive touch user interface that allows a user to control operation of the loudspeaker, wherein the capacitive touch user interface comprises:

a volume control slider comprising a first set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes that are in communication with the processor; and

a positive user feedback control icon that comprises a second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes that is in communication with the processor, wherein:

the loudspeaker is for receiving and playing audio from a first audio stream that is received by the wireless transceiver circuit via the wireless network;

the first set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes are arranged linearly on the capacitive touch user interface such that the linearly-arranged first set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes have a left side and a right side;

the wooden exterior surface of the loudspeaker is a dielectric for the first set and the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes;

the first set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes of the volume control slider are for sensing a sliding motion by a finger of the user of the loudspeaker across the volume control slider; and

the processor controls a volume of audible sound produced by the at least one electroacoustic transducer in response to detection of the sliding motion by the first set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes;

upon the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detecting activation of the positive user feedback control icon, the wireless transceiver circuit transmits an indication of approval via the wireless network to a remote server for a song in the first audio stream being played by the loudspeaker; and

a first set of two or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) that are controlled by the processor to activate in response to detection of the sliding motion by the first set of capacitive sense electrodes, wherein the loudspeaker produces audible sound at a volume level, wherein a corresponding number of the first set of LEDs emit light to indicate the volume level.

2. The loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein the first set of LEDs are arranged linearly on the capacitive touch user interface adjacent to the first set of capacitive sense electrodes of the volume control slider, such that the linearly-arranged LEDs have a left side and a right side.

3. The loudspeaker of claim 2 , wherein the detected sliding motion comprises a left-to-right direction sliding motion along the volume control slider, wherein the volume of audible sound produced by the at least one electroacoustic transducer is increased in response to detection of the left-to-right sliding motion.

4. The loudspeaker of claim 3 , wherein the first set of LEDs turn on sequentially in a left-to-right sequence in response to detection of the left-to-right sliding motion.

5. The loudspeaker of claim 2 , wherein the detected sliding motion comprises a right-to-left direction sliding motion along the user control slider, wherein the volume of audible sound produced by the at least one electroacoustic transducer is decreased in response to detection of the right-to-left sliding motion.

6. The loudspeaker of claim 5 , wherein the first set of LEDs turn off sequentially in a right-to-left sequence in response to detection of the right-to-left sliding motion.

7. The loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein:

the capacitive touch user interface further comprises a next stream user control icon that comprises a third set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes that is in communication with the processor, wherein the wooden exterior surface of the loudspeaker is a dielectric for the third set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes; and

upon the third set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detecting activation of the next stream user control icon, the processor causes the electroacoustic transducer to produce audible sound based on a second audio stream received by the wireless transceiver circuit via the wireless network.

8. The loudspeaker of claim 7 , wherein the capacitive touch user interface comprise a second set of at least one LED that is turned on when the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detect activation of the next stream user control icon.

9. The loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein:

the capacitive touch user interface comprises a negative user feedback control icon that comprises a second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes that is in communication with the processor, wherein the wooden exterior surface of the loudspeaker is a dielectric for the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes; and

upon the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detecting activation of the negative user feedback control icon, the wireless transceiver circuit transmits an indication of disapproval via the wireless network to the remote server for a second song in the first audio stream being played by the loudspeaker.

10. The loudspeaker of claim 9 , wherein the capacitive touch user interface comprises:

a second set of at least one LED that is turned on when the second set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detect activation of the positive user feedback control icon; and

a third set of at least one LED that is turned on when the third set of one or more capacitive sense electrodes detect activation of the negative user feedback control icon.

11. The loudspeaker of claim 10 , wherein:

the loudspeaker further comprises an audio input jack for connecting to an audio source via a physical audio connector;
