Abstract

Wireless-enabled loudspeaker includes a capacitive touch user interface. The loudspeaker may comprise at least one electroacoustic transducer, a processor in communication with the at least one electroacoustic transducer, and an exterior surface comprising a capacitive touch user interface that allows a user to control operation of the loudspeaker. The exterior surface acts a dielectric for the capacitive touch user interface. The loudspeaker may comprise a wireless transceiver circuit for receiving and transmitting wireless communication signals via a wireless network. The wireless transceiver circuit may receive wirelessly audio content from streaming audio content servers that are connected to the Internet. The capacitive touch user interface comprises a plurality of capacitive sense electrodes.

Claims (80)

1 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

an enclosure comprising:

a smooth, topmost surface comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises a thermoplastic;

a bottom surface; and

a side surface positioned between the smooth, topmost surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least a portion of the side surface comprises an acoustical grate through which sound can emanate;

a wireless communication circuit positioned within the enclosure, wherein the wireless communication circuit is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

a plurality of electroacoustic transducers positioned within the enclosure and behind the acoustical grate, wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers are configured to output the streaming audio through the acoustical grate, and wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers comprises a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a capacitive touch user interface comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, topmost surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

2 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a single channel, mono audio output.

3 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

5 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 1 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

6 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 5 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker can be configured for operation via the application.

7 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 6 , wherein, upon being configured for operation, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is connected to a wireless network.

The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 7 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprises a memory, wherein the wireless communication circuit receives a file comprising credentials for the wireless network from the user computing device, and wherein the memory stores the file comprising credentials for the wireless network upon receipt.

9 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 6 , wherein, upon being configured for operation, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is added to a user account.

10 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 9 , wherein, upon being added to the user account, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is associated with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker.

11 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 6 , wherein, upon being configured for operation, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is connected to the streaming audio source.

12 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

a means for enclosing internal components comprising:

a smooth, topmost surface comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises a thermoplastic;

a bottom surface; and

a side surface positioned between the smooth, topmost surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least a portion of the side surface comprises a sound emanating means;

a wireless communication circuit positioned within the means for enclosing internal components, wherein the wireless communication circuit is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

a plurality of electroacoustic transducers positioned within the means for enclosing internal components and behind the sound emanating means, wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers is configured to output the streaming audio through the sound emanating means, and wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers comprise a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a capacitive touch user interface comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, topmost surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

13 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 12 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a single channel, mono audio output.

14 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 12 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

15 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 12 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

16 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 12 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

17 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

an enclosure comprising:

a smooth, topmost surface comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises a thermoplastic;

a bottom surface; and

a side surface positioned between the smooth, topmost surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least a portion of the side surface comprises an acoustical grate;

a wireless communication means positioned within the enclosure, wherein the wireless communication means is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication means is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

a plurality of electroacoustic transducers positioned within the enclosure and behind the acoustical grate, wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers is configured to output the streaming audio through the acoustical grate, and wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers comprise a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a capacitive touch user interface comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, topmost surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

18 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 17 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a single channel, mono audio output.

19 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 17 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication means.

20 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 17 , wherein the wireless communication means is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication means.

21 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 17 , wherein the wireless communication means is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

22 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

an enclosure comprising:

a smooth, topmost surface comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises a thermoplastic;

a bottom surface; and

a side surface positioned between the smooth, topmost surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least a portion of the side surface comprises an acoustical grate;

a wireless communication circuit positioned within the enclosure, wherein the wireless communication circuit is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

an acoustic output means positioned within the enclosure and behind the acoustical grate, wherein the acoustic output means is configured to output the streaming audio through the acoustical grate, and wherein the acoustic output means comprises a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a capacitive touch user interface comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, topmost surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

23 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 22 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a single channel, mono audio output.

24 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 22 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

25 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 22 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

26 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 22 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

27 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

an enclosure comprising:

a smooth, topmost surface comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises a thermoplastic;

a bottom surface; and

a side surface positioned between the smooth, topmost surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least a portion of the side surface comprises an acoustical grate;

a wireless communication circuit positioned within the enclosure, wherein the wireless communication circuit is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

a plurality of electroacoustic transducers positioned within the enclosure and behind the acoustical grate, wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers is configured to output the streaming audio through the acoustical grate, and wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers comprise a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a user interface means comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, topmost surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

28 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 27 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a single channel, mono audio output.

29 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 27 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 27 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

31 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 27 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

32 . A wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprising:

an enclosure comprising a smooth, outer surface comprising a dielectric material;

a wireless communication circuit positioned within the enclosure, wherein the wireless communication circuit is configured to receive streaming audio from a streaming audio source, and wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a second wireless-enabled loudspeaker;

a plurality of electroacoustic transducers positioned within the enclosure, wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers are configured to output the streaming audio, and wherein the plurality of electroacoustic transducers comprises a mid-range speaker and a tweeter; and

a capacitive touch user interface comprising at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein the dielectric material of the smooth, outer surface serves as a dielectric layer by which a user can interact with the at least one capacitive sense electrode, wherein interacting with the at least one capacitive sense electrode controls an operation of the loudspeaker.

33 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 32 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a multi-channel stereo audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 32 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to pair the wireless-enabled loudspeaker to a third wireless-enabled loudspeaker, and wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker provides a surround audio output along with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker and the third wireless-enabled loudspeaker when paired via and the wireless communication circuit.

35 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 32 , wherein the wireless communication circuit is further configured to connect to a user computing device via an application.

36 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 35 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker can be configured for operation via the application.

37 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 36 , wherein, upon being configured for operation, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is connected to a wireless network.

38 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 37 , wherein the wireless-enabled loudspeaker comprises a memory, wherein the wireless communication circuit receives a file comprising credentials for the wireless network from the user computing device, and wherein the memory stores the file comprising credentials for the wireless network upon receipt.

39 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 36 , wherein, upon being configured for operation, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is added to a user account.

40 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 39 , wherein, upon being added to the user account, the wireless-enabled loudspeaker is associated with the second wireless-enabled loudspeaker.

41 . The wireless-enabled loudspeaker of claim 40 , wherein the wireless communication circuit can be connected to the streaming audio source via the application.
