Abstract

The invention provides for a low pH disinfectant composition that includes a relatively low amount of alcohol. Also provided is an article of manufacture that includes a textile and the composition, as well as methods of using the composition and article of manufacture (e.g., for reducing the number of microbes located upon a substrate, for killing or inhibiting a broad spectrum of microorganisms, for killing or inhibiting spore forming bacteria, and/or for disinfecting a substrate). The composition can optionally include a stable residual antimicrobial compound, thereby providing a combination of high-level disinfection and long-lasting residual effect.

Claims (40)

1. An article of manufacture comprising a textile and a composition,

the composition is located on the surface of the textile, the composition is at least partially embedded within the textile, or a combination thereof, and

wherein the composition comprises

isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol);

([(3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl]octadecyldimethylammonium chloride) (TPAC);

hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 );

thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol);

a nonionic triblock copolymer surfactant composed of a central hydrophobic chain of polyoxypropylene (poly(propylene oxide)) flanked by two hydrohilic chains of polyoxyethylene (poly(ethylene oxide));

2-butoxyethanol;

A nonionic alklyl polyglucoside surfactant;

benzotriazole;

phosphoric acid; and

de-ionized water (q.s.).

2. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the textile comprises cloth, natural fiber, artificial fiber, animal textile, plant textile, mineral textile, synthetic textile, or a combination thereof.

3. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the textile is disposable.

4. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the textile is reusable.

5. The article of manufacture claim 1 , that is safe and effective for use with: medical equipment, a surface in the medical industry, dental equipment, a surface in the dental industry, or a combination thereof.

6. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein

the isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 10 and 30 wt. %;

the ([(3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl]octadecyldimethylammonium chloride) (TPAC) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 2 wt. %;

the hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.5 and 7.5 wt. %;

the thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.01 and 2 wt. %;

the nonionic triblock copolymer surfactant is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 1 wt. %;

the 2-butoxyethanol is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.5 and 10 wt. %;

the nonionic alklyl polyglucoside surfactant is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 5 wt. %;

the benzotriazole is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 1 wt. %; and

the phosphoric acid is present in the composition in an amount that is sufficient to bring the pH of the composition to less than about 3.5.

7. The article of manufacture of claim 6 , wherein the textile comprises cloth, natural fiber, artificial fiber, animal textile, plant textile, mineral textile, synthetic textile, or a combination thereof.

8. The article of manufacture of claim 6 , wherein the textile is disposable.

9. The article of manufacture of claim 6 , wherein the textile is reusable.

10. The article of manufacture claim 6 , that is safe and effective for use with: medical equipment, a surface in the medical industry, dental equipment, a surface in the dental industry, or a combination thereof.

11. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 10 and 30 wt. %.

12. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the ([(3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl]octadecyldimethylammonium chloride) (TPAC) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 2 wt. %.

13. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.5 and 7.5 wt. %.

14. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.01 and 2 wt. %.

15. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the nonionic triblock copolymer surfactant is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 1 wt. %.

16. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the 2-butoxyethanol is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.5 and 10 wt. %.

17. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the nonionic alklyl polyglucoside surfactant is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 5 wt. %.

18. The article of manufacture of claim 1 wherein the benzotriazole is present in the composition in an amount that is between about 0.1 and 1 wt. %.

19. The article of manufacture of claim 1 , wherein the phosphoric acid is present in the composition in an amount that is sufficient to bring the pH of the composition to less than about 3.5.
