Abstract

Systems and methods of use involving sensors having a particle-containing domain are provided for continuous analyte measurement in a host. In some embodiments, a continuous analyte measurement system is configured to be wholly, transcutaneously, intravascularly or extracorporeally implanted.

Claims (14)

1. A sensor for measuring an analyte concentration in a host, the sensor comprising:

an elongated body configured to be implanted at least in part in a host, wherein the elongated body comprises:

a substrate;

a first layer covering at least a portion of the substrate, wherein the first layer comprises a first conductive material, wherein a portion of the first layer comprises a first electroactive surface;

a second layer covering at least a portion of the first layer, wherein the second layer comprises an insulating material;

a third layer covering at least a portion of the second layer, wherein the third layer comprises a second conductive material, wherein a portion of the second layer comprises a second electroactive surface; and

a fourth layer covering at least a portion of the third layer, wherein the fourth layer comprise an insulating material;

wherein the first electroactive surface and the second electroactive surface are separated along a longitudinal axis of the elongated body by at least a portion of the fourth layer.

2. The sensor of claim 1 , wherein the elongated body further comprises a fifth layer, wherein the fifth layer comprises a conductive material.

3. The sensor of claim 2 , wherein the fifth layer comprises a silver-containing material.

4. The sensor of claim 1 , wherein the conductive material of the first layer comprises a platinum-containing material, wherein the conductive material of the third layer comprises a platinum-containing material.

5. The sensor of claim 1 , further comprising sensor electronics configured to process a signal received from the working electrode, wherein the sensor electronics are configured to apply a potential of from about 0.1V to about 0.8V to the working electrode.

6. The sensor of claim 5 , wherein the sensor electronics are configured to apply a potential of from about 0.3V to about 0.7V to the working electrode.

7. The sensor of claim 5 , wherein the sensor electronics are configured to apply a potential of from about 0.3V to about 0.5V to the working electrode.
