Abstract

A fluid pump kit is provided. The kit includes a magnetic driven member for coupling with and rotating a propeller, and a magnetic driver for magnetically coupling to and driving the magnetic driven member by a magnetic attraction force establishable between the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member. A motor of the kit operates the magnetic driver. First and second casings are provided for housing the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member, respectively. The first and second casings with housed magnetic driver and magnetic driven member, respectively, are detachably securable to opposite sides of a non-magnetic spacer solely by the magnetic attraction force establishable between the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member sufficient to support the second casing and the housed magnetic driven member in a particular position without the use of mechanical aids.

Claims (31)

1. A fluid pump kit suitable for use with an aquarium, comprising:

a first assembly comprising a magnetic drive member, a drive motor operatively coupled to the magnetic drive member to impart rotary motion to the magnetic drive member, a cover attached to and covering a side of the magnetic drive member facing the drive motor, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic drive member, the drive motor, and the cover; and

a second assembly comprising a rotatable magnetic driven member and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driven member,

wherein the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member are sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly and detachable secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid or mounting magnets, the first and second casings on opposite sides of a non-magnetic wall solely by magnetic attraction force of the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member and to permit the magnetic drive member to magnetically couple to and impart rotary motion to the magnetic driven member, and

wherein the cover shields the drive motor from magnetic flux generated by the rotary motion imparted to the magnetic drive member by the drive motor.

2. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the cover is made of magnetically permeable material.

3. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the cover is made of steel.

4. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the second assembly further comprises a propeller operatively connected to the magnetic driven member so that the propeller rotates when the magnetic drive member imparts rotary motion to the magnetic driven member.

5. The fluid pump kit of claim 4 , wherein the cover is made of magnetically permeable material.

6. The fluid pump kit of claim 4 , wherein the cover is made of steel.

7. The fluid pump kit of claim 4 , wherein the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member are first and second circular disks, respectively, each of the first and second circular disks having a plurality of pairs of magnetic poles (N) and (S).

8. A fluid pump kit suitable for use with an aquarium, comprising:

a first assembly comprising a magnetic drive member, a drive motor operatively coupled to the magnetic drive member to impart rotary motion to the magnetic drive member, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic drive member and the drive motor; and

a second assembly comprising a rotatable magnetic driven member, a steel shield disposed on and covering a distal surface of the magnetic driven member, and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driven member and the steel shield,

wherein the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member are sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly and detachable secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid or mounting magnets, the first and second casings on opposite sides of a non-magnetic wall solely by magnetic attraction force of the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member and to permit the magnetic drive member to magnetically couple to and impart rotary motion to the magnetic driven member.

9. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the steel shield short circuits magnetic flux generated by the rotary motion of the magnetic driven member when the magnetic drive member imparts the rotary motion to the magnetic driven member.

10. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the second assembly further comprises a propeller operatively connected to the magnetic driven member so that the propeller rotates when the magnetic drive member imparts rotary motion to the magnetic driven member, and wherein the steel shield is positioned between the propeller and the magnetic driven member.

11. The fluid pump kit of claim 10 , wherein the steel shield short circuits magnetic flux generated by the rotary motion of the magnetic driven member when the magnetic drive member imparts the rotary motion to the magnetic driven member.

12. The fluid pump kit of claim 11 , wherein the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member are first and second circular disks, respectively, each of the first and second circular disks having a plurality of pairs of magnetic poles (N) and (S).

13. A fluid pump kit suitable for use with an aquarium, comprising:

a first assembly comprising a magnetic drive member, a drive motor operatively coupled to the magnetic drive member to impart rotary motion to the magnetic drive member, a cover attached to and covering a side of the magnetic drive member facing the drive motor, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic drive member, the drive motor, and the cover; and

a second assembly comprising a rotatable magnetic driven member, a steel shield disposed on and covering a distal surface of the driven member, and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driven member and the steel shield,

wherein the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member are sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly and detachable secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid or mounting magnets, the first and second casings on opposite sides of a non-magnetic wall solely by magnetic attraction force of the magnetic drive member and the magnetic driven member and to permit the magnetic drive member to magnetically couple to and impart rotary motion to the magnetic driven member, and

wherein the cover shields the drive motor from magnetic flux generated by the rotary motion imparted to the magnetic drive member by the drive motor.

14. The fluid pump kit of claim 13 , wherein the cover is made of magnetically permeable material.

15. The fluid pump kit of claim 13 , wherein the cover is made of steel.

16. The fluid pump kit of claim 13 , wherein the second assembly further comprises a propeller operatively connected to the magnetic driven member so that the propeller rotates when the magnetic drive member imparts rotary motion to the magnetic driven member, and wherein the steel shield is positioned between the propeller and the magnetic driven member.

17. The fluid pump kit of claim 16 , wherein the steel shield short circuits magnetic flux generated by the rotary motion of the magnetic driven member when the magnetic drive member imparts the rotary motion to the magnetic driven member.

18. The fluid pump kit of claim 17 , wherein the cover is made of magnetically permeable material.
