Abstract

A premises management system may comprise a gateway device. The gateway device may configured to determine one or more premises devices of a premises management system. The gateway device may be configured to receive an indication of a communication protocol associated with the premises devices. The gateway device may be configured to communicate with the premises devices using the communication protocol.

Claims (48)

1. A system comprising:

a computing device located at a first location; and

a gateway device located at a second location different from the first location and configured to communicate with the computing device, wherein the gateway device is configured to:

send, to the computing device, a request for at least one communication protocol associated with a premises management system located at the second location;

receive, from the computing device, an indication of the at least one communication protocol; and

discover using the at least one communication protocol, one or more premises devices associated with the premises management system and located at the second location.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device is further configured to send, to the one or more premises devices and via the communication protocol, command data based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device is configured to send the request based on receiving a user input indicative of the premises management system.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device is further configured to communicate with the one or more premises devices based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device comprises an interface; and

wherein the gateway device is further configured to:

receive, via the interface, an input indicative of a function of the one or more premises devices; and

control, via the communication protocol, the function of the one or more premises devices.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device is configured to determine that the one or more premises devices are associated with the premises management system associated with the second location based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a sensor device, a premises management panel device, a keypad device, a camera device, or an alarm device.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the gateway device is further configured to cause the one or more premises devices to communicate with a system of devices based on discovering the one or more premises devices are associated with the premises management system associated with the second location.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the system of devices is located at the first location.

10. A method comprising:

sending, by a gateway device and to a computing device, a request for at least one communication protocol associated with a premises management system, wherein the gateway device and the premises management system are located at a first location, wherein the computing device is located at a second location different from the first location;

receiving, from the computing device, an indication of the at least one communication protocol; and

discovering using the at least one communication protocol, one or more premises devices associated with the premises management system and located at the second location.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the discovering the one or more premises devices comprises communicating, via the communication protocol, with the one or more premises devices.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising causing the one or more premises devices to communicate with a system of devices based on the discovering the one or more premises devices.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, from a command device located at a third location different from the first location, an indication of a command; and

sending, responsive to the command and to the one or more premises devices, data indicative of the command based on the discovering the one or more premises devices.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the communication protocol comprises at least one of a proprietary protocol of the one or more premises devices, an XML Protocol (“XMLP”), a Transmission Control Protocol (“TCP”), an Internet Protocol (“IP”), a Contact ID (“CID”) protocol, a Security Industry Association (“SIA”) protocol, or a Simple Network Management (“SNMP”) protocol.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:

determining an error associated with communicating, via the communication protocol, with the one or more premises devices; and

communicating, based on the determination of the error and via an alternative communication protocol, with the one or more premises devices.

16. A gateway device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the gateway device to:

send, to a computing device, a request for at least one communication protocol associated with a premises management located at a first location, wherein the computing device is located at a second location different from the first location;

receive, from the computing device, an indication of the at least one communication protocol; and

discover using the at least one communication protocol, one or more premises devices associated with the premises management system and located at the second location.

17. The gateway device of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the gateway device to at least one of change a state of the one or more premises devices, change a configuration parameter of the one or more premises devices, or request an indication of an alarm event associated with the first location based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

18. The gateway device of claim 16 , wherein the communication protocol comprises at least one of a Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”), a Global System for Mobile Communications (“GSM”) protocol, a General Packet Radio Service (“GPRS”) protocol, a Code-Division Multiple Access (“CDMA”) protocol, or a public switched telephone network (“PTSN”) protocol.

19. The gateway device of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the gateway device to send, to another computing device, data from the one or more premises devices based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

20. The gateway device of claim 16 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the gateway device to cause another device at a third location to communicate with the one or more premises devices based on discovering the one or more premises devices.

21. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

sending, by a gateway device and to a computing device, a request for at least one communication protocol associated with a premises management system, wherein the gateway device is located at a first location, wherein the computing device is located at a second location different from the first location;

receiving, from the computing device, an indication of the at least one communication protocol; and

discovering, using the communication protocol, one or more premises devices associated with the premises management system and located at the second location.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the communication protocol comprises at least one of a proprietary protocol of the one or more premises devices, an XML Protocol (“XMLP”), a Transmission Control Protocol (“TCP”), an Internet Protocol (“IP”), a Contact ID (“CID”) protocol, a Security Industry Association (“SIA”) protocol, or a Simple Network Management (“SNMP”) protocol.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions that, when executed, cause the sending the request comprise instructions that cause the sending the request based on receiving a user input indicative of the premises management system.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the instructions that, when executed, cause discovering the one or more premises devices cause communicating with the one or more premises devices via the communication protocol cause discovering the one or more premises.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a home automation device, a camera device, a touchscreen device, an Internet Protocol (IP) device, a device controller, or a sensor device.
