Described herein are compositions and methods of treatment for acne and other skin disorders involving the use of probiotics. In certain aspects, microbes included in the probiotics have been engineered or selected for the treatment of specific skin disorders.
1. A method of treating a skin disorder or condition in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a topical composition comprising Propionibacterium acnes of ribotype 1 or ribotype 2 and one or more agents selected from the group consisting of: Lactobacillus, Staphylococcus, Malassezia, Bifidobacterium, Streptococcus, Dermacoccus, Methylobacterium , and Xanthomonas , and a biological stabilizer.
