Abstract

The present embodiments provide an aviary that includes a floor, a roof, and at least one wall having a plenum to draw air adjacent the roof down the plenum toward the floor. At least one cage tower is disposed on the floor. At least one walkway is disposed adjacent the at least one cage tower and is configured to facilitate bird access to the at least one cage tower. A fan is disposed in flow communication with the plenum to circulate air in the aviary.

Claims (28)

1. A method of circulating air in an aviary comprising:

providing an aviary having at least one wall;

providing a plenum disposed on the at least one wall of the aviary;

providing at least one cage tower;

providing at least one walkway adjacent the at least one cage tower;

drawing air having a temperature higher than air located outside of the aviary toward the floor through the plenum;

drawing air located outside of the aviary through the plenum and into the aviary;

mixing the higher temperature air and the outside air to create mixed air; and

circulating the mixed air around the at least one walkway.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein circulating the mixed air comprises circulating the mixed air in a first direction through a bottom space in the aviary.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein circulating the mixed air further comprises circulating the mixed air around the at least one walkway in a second direction opposite the first direction.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising directing at least a portion of the mixed air downward as the mixed air circulates around the at least one walkway.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a nesting area in the at least one cage tower and circulating the mixed air through and below the nesting area.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing a plurality of spaces adjacent the at least one cage tower, wherein circulating the mixed air comprises circulating the mixed air through the plurality of spaces.

7. A method of circulating air in an aviary comprising:

providing an aviary having at least one wall, a top space, and a floor;

providing a plenum disposed on the at least one wall of the aviary;

providing at least one cage tower;

providing at least one walkway adjacent the at least one cage tower;

drawing air from the top space of the aviary toward the floor through the plenum; and

circulating the air around the at least one walkway.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the drawing air step further comprises drawing air located outside of the aviary through the plenum and into the aviary.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the drawing air step further comprises drawing air from the top space having a temperature higher than air located outside of the aviary toward the floor through the plenum.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein circulating the air comprises circulating the air in a first direction through a bottom space in the aviary.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein circulating the air further comprises circulating the mixed air around the at least one walkway in a second direction opposite the first direction.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising directing at least a portion of the air downward as the air circulates around the at least one walkway.

13. The method of claim 7 , further comprising providing a nesting area in the at least one cage tower and circulating the air through and below the nesting area.

14. The method of claim 7 , further comprising providing a plurality of spaces adjacent the at least one cage tower, wherein circulating the air comprises circulating the air through the plurality of spaces.
