Abstract

Disclosed is a medical device having a first implant portion having a proximal end, a second implant portion connected to the first implant portion, the second implant portion having a distal end, and a driver assembly removably connected to the distal end, the driver assembly comprising a drill connected to the distal end at a connection.

Claims (23)

1. A combination tool and implant assembly comprising:

an implantable portion; and

a tool fixedly attached to the implantable portion at a connection and removably detachable from the implantable portion at the connection by snapping the tool from the implantable portion at the connection, wherein the tool comprises a drill distal of the implantable portion.

2. The combination tool and implant assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the implantable portion and the tool are of monolithic, unitary construction.

3. The combination tool and implant assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the tool extends co-planar relative to the implant portion.

4. The combination tool and implant assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the connection comprises a narrowed portion.

5. The combination tool and implant assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the tool has a distal end such that the distal end is attached to the implantable portion.

6. The combination tool and implant assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the tool comprises a driver.

7. A unitary construction combination tool assembly comprising:

a medical implant portion; and

an insertion tool attached to the medical implant portion and removably detachable from the medical implant portion at a connection by snapping the insertion tool from the medical implant portion at the connection, wherein the insertion tool comprises a drill distal of the medical implant portion.

8. The unitary construction combination tool assembly according to claim 7 , wherein the medical implant portion comprises a first implant portion and a second implant portion.

9. The unitary construction combination tool assembly according to claim 7 , wherein the insertion tool is configured to form a hole in a bone and wherein the medical implant portion is configured to be inserted into the hole.

10. The unitary construction combination tool assembly according to claim 7 , wherein the medical implant portion comprises a plurality of barbs.

11. A combination tool assembly comprising:

an implant portion; and

an insertion tool connected to the implant portion by a connecting portion,

wherein the implant portion, the insertion tool, and the connecting portion are all of unitary construction and

wherein the insertion tool is removably detachable from the implant portion at the connecting portion by snapping the insertion tool from the implant portion at the connecting portion, wherein the insertion tool comprises a drill distal of the implant portion.

12. The combination tool assembly according to claim 11 , wherein the implant portion comprises a first implant portion and a second implant portion.

13. The combination tool assembly according to claim 12 , wherein at least one of the first implant portion and the second implant portion comprises at least one barb.

14. The combination tool assembly according to claim 11 , wherein the implant portion is configured for insertion into a bone.

15. The combination tool assembly according to claim 11 , wherein the insertion tool is configured to form a hole in a bone and to subsequently drive the implant portion into the hole.
