Abstract

The present invention relates to fluoroolefin compositions. The fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention are useful as refrigerants or heat transfer fluids and in processes for producing cooling or heat. Additionally, the fluoroolefin compositions of the present invention may be used to replace currently used refrigerant or heat transfer fluid compositions that have higher global warming potential.

Claims (6)

1. A composition comprising: (i) at least one fluoroolefin compound; and (ii) at least one refrigerant; wherein said fluoroolefin has the formula E- or Z—R 1 CH═CHR 2 , wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a C 1 perfluoroalkyl group; and wherein said refrigerant is the E-isomer of 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propene (HFC-1234ze).

2. A method for replacing the use of a high global warming potential refrigerant, said method comprising: providing the composition of claim 1 in refrigeration, air conditioning, or heat pump apparatus in place of, or in combination with, a high global warming potential refrigerant in said apparatus.

A method of using the composition of claim 1 to lower global warming potential of an original refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition, said method comprising combining said original refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition with the composition of claim 1 , to produce a second refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition wherein said second refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition has a lower global warming potential than said original refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein said original refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition is a hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant.

The method of claim 4 wherein said hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant is selected from the group CHF 3 (HFC-23), CH 2 F 2 (HFC-32), CH 3 F (HFC-41), CHF 2 CF 3 (HFC-125), CHF 2 CHF 2 (HFC-134), CH 2 FCF 3 (HFC-134a), CHF 2 CH 2 F (HFC143), CF 3 CH 3 (HFC-143a), CHF 2 CH 3 (HFC-152a), CH 2 FCH 3 (HFC-161), CHF 2 CF 2 CF 3 (HFC-227ca), CF 3 CFHCF 3 (HFC-227ea), CHF 2 CF 2 CHF 2 (HFC-236ca), CH 2 FCF 2 CF 3 (HFC-236cb), CHF 2 CHFCF 3 (HFC-236ea), CF 3 CH 2 CF 3 (HFC-236fa), CH 2 FCF 2 CHF 2 (HFC-245ca), CH 3 CF 2 CF 3 (HFC-245cb), CHF 2 CHFCHF 2 (HFC-245ea), CH 2 FCHFCF 3 (HFC-245eb), CHF 2 CH 2 CF 3 (HFC-245fa), CH 2 FCF 2 CH 2 F (HFC-254ca), CH 3 CF 2 CHF 2 (HFC-254cb), CH 2 FCHFCHF 2 (HFC-254ea), CH 3 CHFCF 3 (HFC-254eb), CHF 2 CH 2 CHF 2 (HFC-254fa), CH 2 FCH 2 CF 3 (HFC-254fb), CF 3 CH 2 CH 3 (HFC-263fb), CH 3 CF 2 CH 2 F (HFC-263ca), CH 3 CF 2 CH 3 (HFC-272ca), CH 3 CHFCH 2 F (HFC-272ea), CH 2 FCH 2 CH 2 F (HFC-272fa), CH 3 CH 2 CF 2 H (HFC-272fb), CH 3 CHFCH 3 (HFC-281ea), CH 3 CH 2 CH 2 F (HFC-281fa), CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 H (HFC-338pcc), CF 3 CH 2 CF 2 CH 3 (HFC-365mfc), and CF 3 CHFCHFCF 2 CF 3 (HFC-43-10mee).

A method of using a refrigerant or heat transfer fluid composition in refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus, said method comprising introducing said composition into said apparatus having (a) centrifugal compressor; (b) multi-stage centrifugal compressor, or (c) single slab/single pass heat exchanger; wherein said refrigerant or heat transfer composition is employed in said apparatus to result in heating or cooling; and wherein said refrigerant or heat transfer composition is the composition of claim 1 .
