Abstract

A staple cartridge comprising a cartridge body, staples, a first staple driver, a second staple driver, and a third staple driver is disclosed. The cartridge body comprises a knife slot and staple cavities defined in the cartridge body and arranged in an inner longitudinal row of staple cavities, a middle longitudinal row of staple cavities, and an outer longitudinal row of staple cavities on one side of the knife slot. The staples are removably stored within the staple cavities. The first staple driver is configured to eject a first quantity of staples from the staple cavities. The second staple driver is configured to eject a second quantity of staples from the staple cavities which is different than the first quantity of staples. The third staple driver is configured to eject a third quantity of staples that is the same as the first quantity of staples.

staples removably stored within said staple cavities;

a first staple driver configured to eject a first quantity of staples from said staple cavities, wherein said first quantity of staples comprises a first plurality of said staples;

a second staple driver positioned distally with respect to said first staple driver and configured to eject a second quantity of staples from said staple cavities which is different than said first quantity, wherein said second quantity of staples includes a staple from said inner longitudinal row of staple cavities and a staple from said outer longitudinal row of staple cavities, and wherein said second quantity of staples comprises a second plurality of said staples; and

a third staple driver configured to eject a third quantity of staples, wherein said third quantity of staples is the same as said first quantity of staples.

2. The staple cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising a sled configured to lift said first staple driver, said second staple driver, and said third staple driver during a staple firing stroke.

3. The staple cartridge of claim 2 , further comprising a bottom tray extending around a bottom of said cartridge body.

4. The staple cartridge of claim 3 , wherein said bottom tray comprises a longitudinal slot comprising a proximal opening configured to receive a firing member therethrough.

5. The staple cartridge of claim 4 , wherein said bottom tray further comprises:

a first bottom tray side;

a second bottom tray side; and

a distal cross member extending between said first bottom tray side and said second bottom tray side.

6. The staple cartridge of claim 5 , wherein said cartridge body further comprises a deck surface comprising a plurality of recesses, and wherein first bottom tray side and said second bottom tray side each comprise a proximal retention hook configured to engage a said recess defined in said deck within the proximal end of the cartridge body.

7. The staple cartridge of claim 6 , wherein said cartridge body further comprises a sidewall comprising a protrusion, and wherein said first bottom tray side comprises a window through which said protrusion extends.

8. A staple cartridge, comprising:

a cartridge body, comprising:

a proximal end;

staples removably stored within said staple cavities;

a first staple driver configured to eject a first quantity of staples from said staple cavities, wherein said first quantity of staples comprises a first plurality of said staples;

a second staple driver positioned distally with respect to said first staple driver and configured to eject a second quantity of staples from said staple cavities which is different than said first quantity, wherein said second quantity of staples includes a staple from said inner longitudinal row of staple cavities and a staple from said outer longitudinal row of staple cavities, and wherein said second quantity of staples comprises a second plurality of said staples;

a third staple driver configured to eject a third quantity of staples, wherein said third quantity of staples comprises a third plurality of said staples, and wherein said third quantity of staples is the same as said first quantity of staples; and

a sled configured to lift said first staple driver, said second staple driver, and said third staple driver during a staple firing stroke.

9. The staple cartridge of claim 8 , further comprising a cartridge pan extending around a bottom of said cartridge body.

10. The staple cartridge of claim 9 , wherein said cartridge pan comprises a longitudinal slot comprising a proximal opening configured to receive a firing member therethrough.

11. The staple cartridge of claim 10 , wherein said cartridge pan further comprises:

a first cartridge pan side;

a second cartridge pan side; and

a distal cross member extending between said first cartridge pan side and said second cartridge pan side.

12. The staple cartridge of claim 11 , wherein said cartridge body further comprises a deck surface comprising a plurality of recesses, and wherein first cartridge pan side and said second cartridge pan side each comprise a proximal retention hook configured to engage a said recess defined in said deck within the proximal end of the cartridge body.
