Engineered skin equivalent, method of manufacture thereof and products derived therefrom
Disclosed herein are synthetic leathers, artificial epidermal layers, artificial dermal layers, layered structures, products produced therefrom and methods of producing the same.
1. A method of forming a tanned synthetic leather, wherein said method comprises:
1) forming an artificial dermal layer comprising a fibroblast on a scaffold, wherein said scaffold comprises a bioabsorbable synthetic polymer, a cellulose, a cotton, an acetate, an acrylic, a fiber, a linen, a nylon, a rayon, a velvet, a modacrylic, an olefin polyester, a saran, a vinyon, a wool, a jute, a hemp, a bamboo, a flax, or any combination thereof;
2) removing at least a portion of a cell layer from said artificial dermal layer; and
3) tanning at least a portion of said artificial dermal layer to generate said tanned synthetic leather.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said scaffold comprises a fiber.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said fiber comprises a latex, a vegetable, a polyamide, a modified cellulose, or any combination thereof.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said scaffold comprises a cellulose, wherein said cellulose comprises rayon, viscose, acetate, rayon acetate, or any combination thereof.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said artificial dermal layer further comprises collagen.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising forming said tanned synthetic leather into one or more of a watch strap, a belt, a packaging, a shoe, a boot, a footwear, a glove, a clothing, a luggage, a bag, a clutch, a purse, a backpack, a wallet, a saddle, a harness or a whip.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said fibroblast is differentiated from a stem cell.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said fibroblast produces collagen.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein said scaffold comprises bamboo.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein said scaffold comprises cellulose.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein said artificial dermal layer further comprises an artificial epidermal layer.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein said artificial epidermal layer further comprises a keratinocyte.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein said keratinocyte is a pluripotent stem cell-differentiated keratinocyte.
14. The method of claim 11 , wherein said artificial epidermal layer is layered on said dermal layer thereby forming a layered structure.
15. The method of claim 14 , wherein said layered structure further comprises a melanocyte.
16. The method of claim 11 , wherein said artificial dermal layer further comprises a basement membrane substitute.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein said basement membrane substitute is between said artificial epidermal layer and said artificial dermal layer.
18. The method of claim 16 , wherein said basement membrane substitute comprises a dried acellular amniotic membrane.
19. The method of claim 11 , wherein said artificial epidermal layer further comprises collagen.
