Abstract

A gas delivery conduit adapted for fluidly connecting to a respiratory gases delivery system in a high flow therapy system, the gas delivery conduit includes a first connector adapted for connecting to the respiratory gases delivery system, a second connector adapted for connecting to a fitting of a patient interface, tubing fluidly connecting the first connector to the second connector where the first connector has a gas inlet adapted to receive the supplied respiratory gas, one of electrical contacts and temperature contacts integrated into the first connector. The gas delivery conduit further can include a sensing conduit integrated into the gas delivery conduit, where the first connector of the gas delivery conduit is adapted to allow the user to couple the first connector with the respiratory gases delivery system in a single motion.

Claims (32)

1 . A connector for use with a therapy device, the connector comprising:

a conduit fitting including a gas lumen configured to direct gas from a therapy device towards a patient interface and a pressure lumen configured to convey pressure from a patient interface towards a pressure port of the therapy device; and

a cannula fitting configured for releasable engagement with the conduit fitting, the cannula fitting including at least one gas lumen and at least one pressure lumen, the at least one gas lumen being operatively engageable with the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to direct gas from the therapy device towards the patient interface, the at least one pressure lumen being operatively engageable with the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to convey pressure from the patient interface towards the pressure port of the therapy device,

and wherein:

(a) a distal portion of the cannula fitting includes two gas lumens, wherein a proximal portion of the cannula fitting includes one gas lumen, and wherein the two gas lumens of the distal portion of the cannula fitting are in gaseous communication with the one gas lumen of the proximal portion of the cannula fitting; or

(b) a distal portion of the cannula fitting includes two pressure lumens, wherein a proximal portion of the cannula fitting includes one pressure lumen, and wherein the two pressure lumens of the distal portion of the cannula fitting are in gaseous communication with the one pressure lumen of the proximal portion of the cannula fitting.

2 . The connector of claim 1 , wherein the distal portion of the cannula fitting includes the two gas lumens.

3 . The connector of claim 2 , wherein the two gas lumens of the distal portion of the cannula fitting are parallel to each other and extending along a length of the cannula fitting.

4 . The connector of claim 1 , wherein the distal portion of the cannula fitting includes the two pressure lumens.

5 . The connector of claim 4 , wherein the two pressure lumens of the distal portion of the cannula fitting are parallel to each other and extending along a length of the cannula fitting.

6 . The connector of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the cannula fitting and at least a portion of the conduit fitting configured for coaxial engagement with one another.

7 . The connector of claim 1 , wherein the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting are configured to axially move together to create a gas seal between the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one gas lumen of the cannula fitting.

8 . The connector of claim 1 , wherein the cannula fitting includes at least one spoke connecting a wall of the cannula fitting and the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting, the at least one spoke configured to allow axial movement of the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting relative to the wall of the cannula fitting, thereby allowing a pressure seal to be created between the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting prior to a gas seal being created between the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one gas lumen of the cannula fitting.

9 . A connector for use with a therapy device, the connector comprising:

a conduit fitting including a gas lumen configured to direct gas from a therapy device towards a patient interface and a pressure lumen configured to convey pressure from a patient interface towards a pressure port of the therapy device; and

a cannula fitting configured for releasable engagement with the conduit fitting, the cannula fitting including at least one gas lumen and at least one pressure lumen, the at least one gas lumen being operatively engageable with the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to direct gas from the therapy device towards the patient interface, the at least one pressure lumen being operatively engageable with the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to convey pressure from the patient interface towards the pressure port of the therapy device,

wherein the connector, further includes at least one spoke connecting a wall of the conduit fitting and the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting, the at least one spoke configured to allow axial movement of the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting relative to the wall of the conduit fitting, thereby allowing a pressure seal to be created between the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting prior to a gas seal being created between the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one gas lumen of the cannula fitting.

10 . The connector of claim 9 , wherein the at least one spoke connects the wall of the conduit fitting and a wall of the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting.

11 . The connector of claim 9 , further comprising a set of spokes, wherein the set of spokes comprises the at least one spoke, and wherein the set of spokes includes three spokes.

12 . The connector of claim 9 , wherein the at least one spoke is configured to facilitate a single-motion connection between the conduit fitting and the cannula fitting.

13 . The connector of claim 9 , wherein the at least one spoke is configured to allow the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting to axially move together.

14 . The connector of claim 9 , wherein the cannula fitting includes at least one spoke.

15 . A connector for use with a therapy device, the connector comprising:

a conduit fitting including a gas lumen configured to direct gas from a therapy device towards a patient interface and a pressure lumen configured to convey pressure from a patient interface towards a pressure port of the therapy device; and

a cannula fitting configured for releasable engagement with the conduit fitting, the cannula fitting including at least one gas lumen and at least one pressure lumen, the at least one gas lumen being operatively engageable with the gas lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to direct gas from the therapy device towards the patient interface, the at least one pressure lumen being operatively engageable with the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting and being configured to convey pressure from the patient interface towards the pressure port of the therapy device; and

wherein;

(a) the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting is disposed inside the gas lumen of the conduit fitting; or

(b) the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting is disposed inside the at least one gas lumen of the cannula fitting.

16 . The connector of claim 15 , wherein a proximal portion of the cannula fitting is configured to be inserted into a distal portion of the conduit fitting.

17 . The connector of claim 15 , wherein a proximal portion of the at least one gas lumen of the cannula fitting is configured to be inserted into a distal portion of the gas lumen of the conduit fitting.

18 . The connector of claim 15 , wherein a proximal portion of the at least one pressure lumen of the cannula fitting is configured to be inserted into a distal portion of the pressure lumen of the conduit fitting.
