Abstract

The embodiments presented herein provide a device comprising a sensor assembly configured to sense physiological signals corresponding to physiological parameters of a user when in contact with the user, and to produce electrical signals representing the sensed physiological signals. The device may also comprise a converter assembly that is electrically connected to the sensor assembly, and is configured to convert the electrical signals to a modulated signal. The device may further comprise a transmitter that transmits the modulated signal wirelessly to a computing device. The device may include a housing that contains the sensor assembly, the converter assembly, and the transmitter.

Claims (36)

1 . A sensor device comprising:

a sensor assembly configured to sense physiological signals corresponding to physiological parameters of a user when in contact with the user, and to produce electrical signals representing the sensed physiological signals;

a converter assembly electrically connected to the sensor assembly, the converter assembly configured to convert the electrical signals to a modulated signal;

a transmitter that transmits the modulated signal wirelessly to a computing device; and

a housing containing the sensor assembly, the converter assembly, and the transmitter, wherein the housing comprises a credit card form factor.

2 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a set of electrodes for measuring physiological signals corresponding to one or more of an electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG), and an electrooculogram (EOG) of the user when the set of electrodes are in contact with the user.

3 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a microphone assisted stethoscope for measuring physiological signals corresponding to one or more of respiration, heartbeat, and heart rate of the user.

4 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a pulse oximetry sensor for measuring physiological signals corresponding to blood oxygenation, blood flow, and heart rate of the user.

5 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor assembly further comprises at least two electrode pads positioned on an exterior surface of the housing.

6 . The sensor device of claim 5 , wherein the sensor assembly further comprises at least two conductive flexible membranes electrically connected to the at least two electrode pads and electrically connected to the converter assembly.

7 . The sensor device of claim 6 , wherein:

the credit card form factor comprises a top part with a top surface and an underside, and a bottom part with a topside and a bottom surface, wherein the underside of the top part is affixed to the topside of the bottom part; and

the at least two electrode pads are positioned on the top surface of the top part, and the at least two conductive flexible membranes are positioned between the underside of the top part and the topside of the bottom part.

8 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the credit card form factor further contains:

a processor;

a display electrically connected to the converter assembly, the display positioned on an exterior surface of the credit card form factor; and

a memory comprising instructions to cause the processor to process the sensed physiological signals and display the physiological signals on the display.

9 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the credit card form factor comprises a polymer material.

10 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the credit card form factor has a thickness of between 0.65 mm to 0.85 mm such that the credit card form factor has a range of flexibility.

11 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the modulated signal is a frequency modulated signal, and wherein the transmitter outputs the frequency modulated signal having a carrier frequency in the range of from about 6 kHz to about 20 kHz.

12 . The sensor device of claim 1 , wherein the modulated signal is transmitted in accordance with Bluetooth® protocol.

13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the housing at least partially encompasses the computing device.

14 . A system comprising:

a computing device; and

a sensor device comprising:

a sensor assembly configured to sense physiological signals corresponding to physiological parameters of a user when in contact with the user, and to produce electrical signals representing the sensed physiological signals;

a converter assembly electrically connected to the sensor assembly, the converter assembly configured to convert the electrical signals to a modulated signal;

a transmitter that transmits the modulated signal wirelessly to the computing device; and

a housing containing the sensor assembly, the converter assembly, and the transmitter, wherein the housing comprises a credit card form factor.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a set of electrodes for measuring physiological signals corresponding to one or more of an electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG), and an electrooculogram (EOG) of the user when the set of electrodes are in contact with the user.

16 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a microphone assisted stethoscope for measuring physiological signals corresponding to one or more of respiration, heartbeat, and heart rate of the user.

17 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the sensor assembly comprises a pulse oximetry sensor for measuring physiological signals corresponding to blood oxygenation, blood flow, and heart rate of the user.

18 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the housing further contains:

a processor;

a display electrically connected to the converter assembly, the display positioned on the exterior surface of the credit card form factor; and

a memory comprising instructions to cause the processor to process the sensed physiological signals and display the physiological signals on the display.
