Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods of electrostatically printing a cyclodextrin composition on a substrate, the method including forming an electrostatically printable composition comprising a polymer and one or more cyclodextrins, one or more cyclodextrin inclusion complexes, or a combination thereof, and electrostatically printing the composition on a substrate. Also described are electrostatically printable compositions, methods of making the compositions, printing systems employing the compositions, substrates having the composition electrostatically printed thereon, laminates thereof, and uses of the printed substrates and laminates.

Claims (35)

1. A printed substrate comprising a substrate having a first major surface, the printed substrate comprising a first electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed and at least partially fused on at least a portion of the area of the first major surface, the first electrostatically printable composition comprising a particulate comprising a cyclodextrin complexed with a first medicament, further wherein the cyclodextrin is present in the printable composition at about 2 wt % to 30 wt %.

2. The printed substrate of claim 1 wherein the substrate comprises a nonwoven or a solid polymeric sheet.

3. The printed substrate of claim 1 wherein the first electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

4. The printed substrate of claim 1 further comprising a second electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed on at least a portion of the area of the first major surface, the second electrostatically printable composition comprising a particulate comprising a cyclodextrin complexed with a second medicament, wherein the second medicament is different from the first medicament.

5. The printed substrate of claim 4 wherein the second electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

6. The printed substrate of claim 4 wherein one of the first or second medicaments is an anti-inflammatory or an antibiotic.

7. The printed substrate of claim 1 further comprising a laminating substrate contacting the first major surface.

8. The printed substrate of claim 1 further comprising a water activated adhesive disposed on the first major surface.

9. The printed substrate of claim 8 wherein water triggers the release of the first medicament from the cyclodextrin complex thereof.

10. The printed substrate of claim 1 further comprising an adhesive disposed on a second major surface of the substrate.

11. The printed substrate of claim 10 further comprising a liner contacting the adhesive.

12. The printed substrate of claim 1 wherein the substrate is a water soluble or saliva soluble film.

13. The printed substrate of claim 12 wherein water triggers the release of the first medicament from the cyclodextrin complex.

14. A printed substrate comprising:

a substrate having a first major surface and a second major surface; and

a first electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed on at least a portion of the first major surface and at least partially fused thereon, the first electrostatically printable composition comprising a particulate comprising cyclodextrin complexed with a first compound selected from an antimicrobial, a fungicide, an insecticide, a pesticide, a preservative, or a fragrance, further wherein the cyclodextrin is present in the printable composition at about 2 wt % to 30 wt %; and

an adhesive disposed on at least a portion of the second major surface of the substrate.

15. The printed substrate of claim 14 wherein the first electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

16. The printed substrate of claim 14 further comprising a laminating substrate contacting the first major surface.

17. The printed substrate of claim 14 further comprising a second electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed on at least a portion of the area of the first major surface, the second electrostatically printable composition comprising a particulate comprising cyclodextrin complexed with a second compound selected from an antimicrobial, a fungicide, an insecticide, a pesticide, a preservative, or a fragrance, wherein the second compound is different from the first compound.

18. The printed substrate of claim 17 wherein the second electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

19. A kit comprising a plurality of die-cut stickers, the stickers comprising the printed substrate of claim 1, claim 14 , or claim 20.

20. A printed substrate comprising a substrate having a first major surface, the printed substrate comprising a first electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed and at least partially fused on at least a portion of the area of the first major surface, the first electrostatically printable composition comprising a cyclodextrin complexed with a first compound that is a medicament, a fragrance, a colorant, a fungicide, an insecticide, a pesticide, an antimicrobial, a preservative, or 1-methylcyclopropene, further wherein the cyclodextrin is present in the printable composition at about 2 wt % to 30 wt %.

21. The printed substrate of claim 20 wherein the substrate comprises a nonwoven or a solid polymeric sheet.

22. The printed substrate of claim 20 wherein the first electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

23. The printed substrate of claim 20 further comprising a second electrostatically printable composition electrostatically printed on at least a portion of the area of the first major surface, the second electrostatically printable composition comprising a cyclodextrin complexed with a second compound that is a medicament, a fragrance, a colorant, a fungicide, an insecticide, a pesticide, an antimicrobial, a preservative, or 1-methylcyclopropene, wherein the second compound is different from the first compound.

24. The printed substrate of claim 23 wherein the second electrostatically printable composition further comprises a colorant.

25. The printed substrate of claim 23 wherein one of the first or second compounds is an anti-inflammatory or an antibiotic or 1-methylcyclopropene.

26. The printed substrate of claim 20 further comprising a laminating substrate contacting the first major surface.

27. The printed substrate of claim 20 further comprising a water activated adhesive disposed on the first major surface.

28. The printed substrate of claim 20 further comprising an adhesive disposed on a second major surface of the substrate.

29. The printed substrate of claim 28 further comprising a liner contacting the adhesive.

30. The printed substrate of claim 27 wherein water triggers the release of the first compound from the cyclodextrin complex thereof.
