Abstract

Provided are a light-emitting device and an electronic apparatus including the same, the light-emitting device including: a first electrode; a second electrode facing the first electrode; and an emission layer between the first electrode and the second electrode. The emission layer includes i) a first emission layer and ii) a second emission layer located between the first emission layer and the second electrode, the first emission layer is in direct contact with the second emission layer, the first emission layer includes a dopant, a first hole-transporting compound, and a first compound, the second emission layer includes a dopant, a second hole-transporting compound, and a second compound, the dopant included in the first emission layer and the dopant included in the second emission layer are identical to each other, the first compound and the second compound are different from each other, and an absolute value of the difference between a HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound and a HOMO energy level of the second compound is about 0.3 eV or less.

Claims (47)

1. A light-emitting device comprising:

a first electrode; a second electrode facing the first electrode; and an emission layer between the first electrode and the second electrode,

wherein the emission layer comprises i) a first emission layer and ii) a second emission layer located between the first emission layer and the second electrode, the first emission layer is in direct contact with the second emission layer,

the first emission layer comprises a dopant, a first hole-transporting compound, and a first compound, and

the second emission layer comprises a dopant, a second hole-transporting compound, and a second compound,

wherein the dopant included in the first emission layer and the dopant included in the second emission layer is a transition metal-containing organometallic compound and are identical to each other,

the first compound and the second compound are different from each other,

the first hole-transporting compound and the second hole-transporting compound are each a compound represented by Formula 5,

the first compound is a compound represented by Formula 7,

the second compound is a compound represented by Formula 9,

an absolute value of the difference between a highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of the second hole-transporting compound and a HOMO energy level of the second compound is about 0.3 eV or less, and

a HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound and a HOMO energy level of the second compound are each a negative value measured by using a photoelectron spectroscope in air

wherein

Ar 1 , Ar 2 , Ar 11 , Ar 101 , and Ar 102 in Formula 5, Formula 7, and Formula 9 are each independently a C 5 -C 60 carbocylic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50 or a C 1 -C 60 heterocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50 ,

Ar 91 in Formula 9 is a single bond, a C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 90 , or a C 1 -C 60 heterocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 90 ,

Ar 5 and Ar 12 in Formula 5 and Formula 7 is a single bond, a C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50a , or a C 1 -C 60 heterocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50a , or Ar 5 may not exist,

Het1 in Formula 7 may be a π electron-deficient nitrogen-containing C 1 -C 60 cyclic group,

n6 in Formula 5 is 1, 2, or 3, and when n6 is 1, Ar 5 does not exist,

p in Formula 7 may be 1, 2, or 3, and when p is 1, Ar 12 may not exist,

a1 and a2 in Formula 5 are each independently an integer from 0 to 5, and the sum of a1 and a2 is 1 to 10,

ring CY 51 , ring CY 52 , ring CY 91 and ring CY 92 in Formula 5 and Formula 9 are each independently a C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group or a C 1 -C 60 heterocyclic group, and ring CY 51 and ring CY 52 are optionally combined with each other with a C 5 -C 60 carbocyclic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50b or a C 1 -C 60 heterocylic group unsubstituted or substituted with at least one R 50b therebetween,

L 5 in Formula 5 is a single bond, O, S, N(R 50c ), C(R 50c )(R 50d ), or Si(R 50c )(R 50d ), and n5 is 0 or 1, wherein, when n5 is 0, L 5 does not exist,

a11 and a91 in Formula 9, and m in Formula 7, are independently an integer from 1 to 10,

X 101 in Formula 9 is N or C(R 101 ), X 102 in Formula 9 is N or C(R 102 ), X 103 in Formula 9 is N or C(R 103 ), and at least two of X 101 to X 103 are N,

X 91 in Formula 9 is a single bond, O, S, N(R 91a ), C(R 91a )(R 91b ), or Si(R 91a )(R 91b ),

R 50 , R 51 , R 52 , R 50a , to R 50d , R 70 , R 80 , R 90 , R 91 , R 92 , R 91a , R 91b , R 101 , R 102 , and R 103 are each independently hydrogen, deuterium, —F, —Cl, —Br, —I, —SF 5 , a hydroxyl group, a cyano group, a nitro group, an amino group, an amidino group, a hydrazine group, a hydrazone group, a carboxylic acid group or a salt thereof, a sulfonic acid group or a salt thereof, a phosphoric acid group or a salt thereof, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 2 -C 60 alkynyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 alkoxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 3 -C 10 cycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 10 heterocycloalkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 aryloxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 60 arylthio group, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 60 heteroaryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed polycyclic group, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent non-aromatic condensed heteropolycyclic group, —N(Q 1 )(Q 2 ), —Si(Q 3 )(Q 4 )(Q 5 ), —Ge(Q 3 )(Q 4 )(Q 5 ), —B(Q 6 )(Q 7 ), —P(═O)(Q 8 )(Q 9 ), or —P(Q 8 )(Q 9 ), and

Q 1 to Q 9 are each independently: hydrogen; deuterium; —F; a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted with deuterium; or a C 6 -C 60 aryl group which is unsubstituted or substituted with deuterium, a C 1 -C 60 alkyl group, a C 6 -C 60 aryl group, or any combination thereof, and

b51 to b54, b7, b8, b73, b8, b83, b91, and b92 are each independently an integer from 0 to 10.

2. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the dopant is a phosphorescent dopant.

3. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the first hole-transporting compound and the second hole-transporting compound are different from each other.

4. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the first hole-transporting compound and the second hole-transporting compound are identical to each other.

5. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a minimum value of the HOMO energy level of the first hole-transporting compound and the HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound are about −5.80 eV or more.

6. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the HOMO energy level of the first hole-transporting compound and the HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound are each about −5.80 eV or more.

7. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the HOMO energy level of the first compound is smaller than the HOMO energy level of the second compound.

8. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the HOMO energy level of the first compound and the HOMO energy level of the second compound are each about −6.15 eV or more.

9. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the HOMO energy level of the second compound is about −6.00 eV or more.

10. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the HOMO energy level of the second compound is about −5.80 eV or more.

11. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein an absolute value of the difference between the HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound and the HOMO energy level of the second compound is about 0.16 eV or less.

The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a maximum value from among the HOMO energy level of the first hole-transporting compound, the HOMO energy level of the first compound, the HOMO energy level of the second hole-transporting compound, and the HOMO energy level of the second compound is smaller than a HOMO energy level of the dopant.

13. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a HOMO energy level of the dopant is from about −5.60 eV to about −5.20 eV.

14. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a thickness of the second emission layer is identical to a thickness of the first emission layer.

15. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein a thickness of the second emission layer is greater than a thickness of the first emission layer.

16. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein light emitted from the emission layer to the outside through at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is not white light.

17. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein light emitted from the emission layer to the outside through at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is green light having a maximum emission wavelength of about 500 nm to about 580 nm.

18. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , further comprising a hole-transporting region located between the first electrode and the emission layer, wherein the hole-transporting region does not include a charge-generation layer and an emission layer.

19. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , further comprising an electron-transporting region, which is located between the emission layer and the second electrode, wherein the electron-transporting region does not include a charge-generation layer and an emission layer.

20. An electronic apparatus comprising the light-emitting device of claim 1 .
