Abstract

A system and method for monitoring body chemistry of a user, the system comprising: a housing supporting: a microsensor comprising a first and second working electrode, a reference electrode, and a counter electrode, and configured to access interstitial fluid of the user, and an electronics subsystem comprising a signal conditioning module that receives a signal stream, from the microsensor, wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to detect an impedance signal derived from two of the first working electrode, the second working electrode, the reference electrode, and the counter electrode; and a processing subsystem comprising: a first module configured to generate an analysis indicative of an analyte parameter of the user and derived from the signal stream and the impedance signal, and a second module configured to transmit information derived from the analysis to the user, thereby facilitating monitoring of body chemistry of the user.

Claims (36)

1. A health-monitor patch system, comprising:

an adhesive region;

a microsensor having a plurality of microneedles configured to access interstitial fluid of a user and generate a plurality of signals when the adhesive region is coupled to skin of the user; and

an electronics subsystem configured to be in communication with the microsensor, wherein the electronics subsystem includes at least one processor and is programmed with instructions, executable by the at least one processor, to:

analyze an impedance signal of the plurality of signals to determine an adjustment to at least one electrical parameter for the microsensor to increase detection accuracy of at least one analyte by the microsensor,

control operation of the microsensor based on the adjustment to the at least one electrical parameter, and

generate an analysis based on at least one signal of the plurality of signals, wherein the analysis is indicative of an analyte parameter for the at least one analyte in the interstitial fluid.

2. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to condition at least one signal from the plurality of signals.

3. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of signals include analyte detection signals, and the electronics subsystem is configured to condition the analyte detection signals for determining the analyte parameter.

4. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem includes an impedance detection module configured to enable interface detection between the microsensor and the interstitial fluid.

5. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem is further configured to detect whether at least one microneedle of the plurality of microneedles is accessing the interstitial fluid of the user based at least in part on the impedance signal.

6. The health-monitor patch system of claim 5 , wherein, in response to the electronics subsystem determining that the at least one microneedle is not interfacing with the interstitial fluid of the user, the electronics subsystem is configured to generate a user notification.

7. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to compare the impedance signal to an impedance threshold condition.

8. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the microsensor is configured to operate in a current sensing mode and an impedance detection mode.

9. The health-monitor patch system of claim 8 , wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to

identify a triggering event, and

in response to identification of the triggering event, switch the microsensor between the current sensing mode and the impedance detection mode.

10. The health-monitor patch system of claim 9 wherein the triggering event includes at least one of: initial application of the health-monitor patch system to the skin of the user, a sensor signal indicating performance of an action by the user, a regular time interval, or an irregular time interval.

11. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , further comprising a storage module configured to store a user-specific model, wherein the electronics subsystem is further configured to

condition one or more of the plurality of signals, and

analyze the one or more conditioned signals using the user-specific model.

12. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to perform a calibration routine relative to a grounded portion of the microsensor.

13. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive region is an adhesive substrate including a microsensor opening through which the plurality of microneedles extend.

14. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to determine the adjustment based on the impedance signal and at least one conditioned signal of the plurality of signals.

15. The health-monitor patch system of claim 1 , wherein the electronics subsystem is configured to

store a calibration routine, and

calibrate the microsensor using the stored calibration routine and an output from at least one microneedle of the plurality of microneedles.

16. A health-monitor patch system, comprising:

a microsensor including a plurality of microneedles configured to access interstitial fluid of a user, wherein the microsensor is configured to detect at least one analyte in the interstitial fluid, and output signals that include at least one impedance signal;

an adhesive portion configured to couple to a user's skin to hold the plurality of microneedles in tissue of the user; and

an electronics subsystem communicably coupled to the microsensor and including at least one processor and instructions, executable by the at least one processor, to:

analyze one or more of the signals to determine an electrical adjustment to operation of the microsensor based at least partially on the at least one impedance signal, and

control operation of the microsensor based at least partially on the determined electrical adjustment to adjust detection accuracy of the at least one analyte.

17. The health-monitor patch system of claim 16 , wherein the electronics subsystem is further configured to generate an analyte parameter for the at least one analyte in the interstitial fluid, wherein the at least one analyte is at least partially indicative of at least one health-related condition or event of the user.

18. The health-monitor patch system of claim 16 , wherein the electronics subsystem is further configured to condition at least a portion of the signals, wherein the conditioned portion of the signals are used to generate an output indicative of an analyte parameter for the at least one analyte.
