Abstract

A prosthesis for implantation at a native semilunar valve includes a prosthetic distal valve, which includes a pliant material configured to collapse inwardly towards a longitudinal axis of the prosthesis during diastole, and to open outwardly during systole, and a distal fixation member configured to be positioned in a downstream artery of the subject. The apparatus also includes a proximal fixation member coupled to the distal fixation member, and configured to be positioned at least partially on a ventricular side of the native semilunar valve. The proximal fixation member is shaped so as to define a lattice that is shaped so as to define an intermediary portion that is coupled to the pliant material of the valve and diverges outwardly from the longitudinal axis, and a distal portion that is distal to the intermediary portion and diverges outwardly from the intermediary portion of the lattice. Other embodiments are also described.

Claims (31)

1. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure, the support structure including a proximal portion including at least two rows of cells between a proximal end and a distal end of the proximal portion, and a plurality of commissure posts each having a proximal end terminating at the distal end of the proximal portion and extending distally therefrom, each of the commissure posts including an elongated slit;

a prosthetic valve positioned inside and coupled to the support structure, the prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets; and

a graft covering coupled to an inner-most surface of the proximal portion of the support structure;

wherein the graft covering is attached to the prosthetic valve leaflets along a joint line, and

wherein no portion of the joint line is directly attached to the proximal portion of the support structure.

2. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the joint line is formed by suturing the graft covering and the prosthetic leaflets together.

3. The valve prosthesis of claim 2 , wherein the proximal portion of the support structure comprises lattice members forming the at least two rows of cells, and wherein no portion of the joint line is directly attached to the lattice members.

4. The valve prosthesis of claim 3 , wherein the graft covering is directly attached to the lattice members.

5. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein no portion of the joint line is directly attached to the support structure.

6. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein each of the prosthetic leaflets includes opposing side ends, each of the opposing side ends being paired with an adjacent side end of an adjacent leaflet to form commissures, and wherein each commissure extends radially outward through the elongated slit of a corresponding commissure post of the plurality of commissure posts.

7. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure, the support structure including a proximal portion including at least two rows of cells between a proximal end and a distal end of the proximal portion, and a plurality of commissure posts each having a proximal end terminating at the distal end of the proximal portion and extending distally therefrom, each of the commissure posts including an elongated slit;

a prosthetic valve positioned inside and coupled to the support structure, the prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets;

a graft covering coupled to an inner-most surface of the proximal portion of the support structure;

at least one suture attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering, wherein no suture attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is directly attached to the proximal portion of the support structure.

8. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein every suture of the at least one suture attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is disposed between lattice members of the support structure.

9. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein every suture of the at least one suture attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering not being directly attached to the proximal portion provides strain relief to a joint formed where the prosthetic leaflets are sutured to the graft covering.

10. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein the graft covering is directly attached to the support structure.

11. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein no suture of the at least one suture connecting the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is directly attached to the support structure.

12. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein each of the prosthetic leaflets includes opposing side ends, each of the opposing side ends being paired with an adjacent side end of an adjacent leaflet to form commissures, and wherein each commissure extends radially outward through the elongated slit of a corresponding commissure post of the plurality of commissure posts.

13. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure, the support structure including a proximal portion including at least two rows of cells between a proximal end and a distal end of the proximal portion, and a plurality of commissure posts each having a proximal end terminating at the distal end of the proximal portion and extending distally therefrom, each of the commissure posts including an elongated slit;

a prosthetic valve positioned inside and coupled to the support structure, the prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets; and

a graft covering coupled to an inner-most surface of the proximal portion of the support structure;

wherein the prosthetic leaflets are sutured to the graft covering, wherein no suture connecting the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is directly attached to the proximal portion of the support structure.

14. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein any suture attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is disposed between lattice members of the support structure.

15. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein the prosthetic valve leaflets being sutured to the graft covering and not being directly attached to the proximal portion provides strain relief to a joint formed where the prosthetic leaflets are sutured to the graft covering.

16. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein the graft covering is directly attached to the support structure.

17. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein no suture connecting the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering is directly attached to the support structure.

18. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , wherein each of the prosthetic leaflets includes opposing side ends, each of the opposing side ends being paired with an adjacent side end of an adjacent leaflet to form commissures, and wherein each commissure extends radially outward through the elongated slit of a corresponding commissure post of the plurality of commissure posts.
