Abstract

A patient bed includes a drainage bag sensor. The patient bed includes, for example, a frame configured to support a patient, a drainage bag holder coupled to the frame and configured to support a drainage bag, and a sensor to detect a presence of the drainage bag being supported by the drainage bag holder.

Claims (26)

1. A patient bed for use with a drainage bag, the patient bed comprising

a frame configured to support a patient,

a drainage bag holder coupled to the frame and configured to support the drainage bag, and

a sensor to detect a presence of the drainage bag being supported by the drainage bag holder, wherein the drainage bag holder includes a bar to support the drainage bag, wherein the drainage bag holder includes a substantially vertically oriented plate and the bar is pivotably coupled to the substantially vertically oriented plate, wherein the sensor includes a limit switch having a portion received in a hole formed in the substantially vertically oriented plate.

2. The patient bed of claim 1 , wherein the drainage bag holder is located near a foot end of the frame.

3. The patient bed of claim 1 , wherein the bar includes and arm and the limit switch has a lever that is moved to a closed position by the arm in response to the drainage bag being coupled to the bar.

4. The patient bed of claim 3 , wherein the bar further includes a shelf and the arm extends from the shelf of the bar.

5. The patient bed of claim 4 , wherein the arm extends downwardly from the shelf.

6. The patient bed of claim 4 , wherein the drainage bag holder includes a pair of pivot tabs that extend from the substantially vertically oriented plate and the shelf is pivotably coupled to the pivot tabs.

7. The patient bed of claim 6 , wherein the drainage bag holder further include a pair of cosmetic trim pieces situated on the substantially vertically oriented plate and wherein the pair of pivot tabs are situated between the pair of cosmetic trim pieces.

8. The patient bed of claim 6 , wherein the hole in the substantially vertically oriented plate is located between the pair of pivot tabs.

9. The patient bed of claim 6 , wherein the pair of pivot tabs are located closer to a top of the substantially vertically oriented plate than to a bottom of the substantially vertically oriented plate.

10. The patient bed of claim 4 , wherein the bar is U-shaped with an elongated central segment that is substantially parallel with the substantially vertically oriented plate and with a pair of end segments that are generally perpendicular to the elongated central segment, and wherein the shelf is coupled to the elongated central segment about midway between the pair of end segments.

11. The patient bed of claim 10 , wherein the shelf is substantially parallel with the pair of end segments of the bar.

12. The patient bed of claim 10 , wherein the shelf and the pair of end segments each extend from the elongated central segment in a cantilevered manner.

13. The patient bed of claim 10 , wherein the drainage bag holder includes four pivot tabs that extend from the substantially vertically oriented plate, wherein the shelf is pivotably coupled to a first pair of the four pivot tabs, and wherein the pair of end segments of the bar are coupled to a second pair of the four pivot tabs.

14. The patient bed of claim 1 , wherein the bar is U-shaped with an elongated central segment that is substantially parallel with the substantially vertically oriented plate and with a pair of end segments that are generally perpendicular to the elongated central segment.

15. The patient bed of claim 14 , wherein the pair of end segments of the bar are pivotably coupled to the substantially vertically oriented plate.

16. The patient bed of claim 14 , wherein the sensor is located about midway between the pair of end segments of the bar.

17. A patient bed for use with a drainage bag, the patient bed comprising

a frame configured to support a patient,

a drainage bag holder coupled to the frame and configured to support the drainage bag, and

a sensor to detect a presence of the drainage bag being supported by the drainage bag holder, wherein the drainage bag holder includes a bar to support the drainage bag, wherein the drainage bag holder includes a substantially vertically oriented plate and the bar is pivotably coupled to the substantially vertically oriented plate, wherein the drainage bag holder includes a pair of pivot tabs that extend from the substantially vertically oriented plate and the bar is pivotably coupled to the pivot tabs.

18. The patient bed of claim 17 , wherein the bar is U-shaped with an elongated central segment that is substantially parallel with the substantially vertically oriented plate and with a pair of end segments that are generally perpendicular to the elongated central segment, and wherein the end segments are pivotably coupled to the pivot tabs.

19. The patient bed of claim 17 , wherein the drainage bag holder further include at least one cosmetic trim piece situated on the substantially vertically oriented plate between the pair of pivot tabs.

20. The patient bed of claim 17 , wherein the pair of pivot tabs are located closer to a top of the substantially vertically oriented plate than to a bottom of the substantially vertically oriented plate.
