Abstract

A device for use in laparoscopic surgery is provided. The device has a plurality of telescoping sections positioned in and movable relative to a protective sheath between an extended configuration, wherein a body section of a first one of the telescoping sections is spaced apart from a body section of a second one of the telescoping sections, and a retracted configuration wherein the body section of the first one of the telescoping sections is in contact with the body section of the second one of the telescoping sections. A tissue interaction portion is configured to interact with tissue in response to the manipulation of a device actuator.

Claims (27)

1. A component of a surgical stapler, comprising:

a body section having a first slot extending longitudinally; and

an attachment section coupled to the body section, the attachment section aligned longitudinally with the first slot of the body section, wherein the attachment section comprises a hook section having a neck portion and an extension section extending radially outward from a longitudinal axis of the attachment section;

wherein the first slot of the body section is configured to slidably receive at least a part of another hook section.

2. The component of claim 1 , wherein the body section is integrated with the attachment section.

3. The component of claim 1 , wherein the body section and the attachment section form a first telescopic section, and wherein the component further comprises a second telescopic section aligned with the first telescopic section in a serial configuration.

4. The component of claim 3 , further comprising a rod configured to move the first telescopic section and/or the second telescopic section.

5. The component of claim 1 , wherein the body section comprises a second slot sized to accommodate a cutting mechanism.

6. The component of claim 5 , further comprising the cutting mechanism.

7. The component of claim 5 , further comprising a first staple pusher, wherein the body section comprises a third slot sized to accommodate the first staple pusher.

8. The component of claim 7 , further comprising a second staple pusher, wherein the body section comprises a fourth slot sized to accommodate the second staple pusher.

9. The component of claim 8 , wherein the second slot is between the third slot and the fourth slot.

10. The component of claim 7 , further comprising a rod coupled to the first staple pusher.

11. The component of claim 10 , wherein the rod is configured to move the first staple pusher before interacting with the cutting mechanism.

12. The component of claim 10 , further comprising a locking sheath disposed around the rod.

13. The component of claim 12 , wherein the locking sheath is coupled to the rod and is configured to travel distally with the rod.

14. The component of claim 12 , further comprising a clamping sheath disposed around the locking sheath.

15. The component of claim 14 , wherein the locking sheath comprises a locking sheath tab extending from a wall of the locking sheath, and wherein the locking sheath tab of the locking sheath is configured to interact with a notch at the clamping sheath.

16. The component of claim 15 , wherein notch at the clamping sheath is configured to prevent the locking sheath tab of the locking sheath from moving distally.

17. A component of a surgical stapler, comprising:

a body section having a first slot extending longitudinally, wherein the first slot is on a first side of the body section;

an attachment section coupled to the body section, the attachment section aligned longitudinally with the first slot of the body section, wherein the attachment section comprises a hook section having a neck portion and an extension section extending radially outward from a longitudinal axis of the attachment section; and

a first staple pusher;

wherein the body section further comprises a second slot on a second side of the body section, the second side being opposite from the first side, wherein the second slot is sized to accommodate the first staple pusher.

18. The component of claim 17 , further comprising a second staple pusher, wherein the body section further comprises a third slot on the second side of the body section, wherein the third slot is sized to accommodate the second staple pusher.

19. The component of claim 18 , wherein the body section further comprises a fourth slot between the second slot and the third slot, the fourth slot being sized to accommodate a cutting mechanism.

20. The component of claim 17 , wherein the first slot is configured to slidably receive at least a part of another hook section.
