Abstract

Receiving a first portion of a live stream of a content item being either prerecorded or being captured from a live event, the content item comprising or to comprise a set of stream-enabled video segments, the first portion of the live stream comprising a first subset of stream-enabled video segments. Identifying insertion point(s) within at least one stream-enabled video segment. Generating a first playlist based on the one or more identified insertion points, the first playlist associated with at least a first sub-subset stream-enabled video segments. Providing the first playlist to a consumer system. Receiving a second portion of the live stream comprising a second subset of stream-enabled video segments. Receiving a second playlist associated with the second portion of the live stream. Updating the first playlist based on the second playlist, and providing the updated first playlist to the consumer system.

Claims (33)

1. A system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform:

receiving one or more advertisements;

receiving at least a portion of a content item, the content item comprising stream- enabled video, the stream-enabled video including a series of images, each image including image content;

identifying an insertion point in the at least the portion of the content item for the one or more advertisements, the insertion point being identified before the at least the portion of the content item is being streamed to a consumer system, the identifying the insertion point being in response to satisfaction of a predetermined condition, the predetermined condition being based on the image content of one or more images of the series of images;

stitching the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point, the stitching including modifying the at least the portion of the content item to add the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point;

using a single identifier in a playlist to identify the modified at least the portion of the content item; and

in response to receiving from the consumer system a request including the single identifier, streaming the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system, the streaming including streaming the one or more advertisements of the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system when the insertion point is reached.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more advertisements comprise stream-enabled video.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined condition is satisfied if a predetermined portion of at least two sequential black frames of a set of sequential black frames comprise all black pixels.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the system to perform identifying one or more consumer system attributes of the consumer system.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the instructions further cause the system to perform providing a request for the one or more advertisements based on the one or more consumer system attributes, and receiving the one or more advertisements based on the one or more consumer system attributes.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the instructions further cause the system to perform reformatting of the at least the portion of the content item based on the one or more consumer system attributes, and streaming the reformatted at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system.

7. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a server system, one or more advertisements;

receiving, by the server system, at least a portion of a content item, the content item comprising stream-enabled video, the stream-enabled video including a series of images, each image including image content;

identifying, by the server system, an insertion point in the at least the portion of the content item for the one or more advertisements, the insertion point being identified before the at least the portion of the content item is being streamed to a consumer system, the identifying the insertion point being in response to satisfaction of a predetermined condition, the predetermined condition being based on the image content of one or more images of the series of images;

stitching, by the server system, the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point, the stitching including modifying the at least the portion of the content item to add the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point;

using a single identifier in a playlist to identify the modified at least the portion of the content item; and

in response to receiving by the server system from the consumer system a request including the single identifier, streaming, by the server system, the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system, the streaming including streaming the one or more advertisements of the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system when the insertion point is reached.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more advertisements comprise stream-enabled video.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the predetermined condition is satisfied if a diagonal portion of at least two sequential black frames of a set of sequential black frames comprise all black pixels.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising identifying, by the server system, one or more consumer system attributes of the consumer system.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising providing, by the server system, a request for the one or more advertisements based on the one or more consumer system attributes, and wherein the receiving, by the server system, the one or more advertisements comprises receiving the one or more advertisements based on the one or more consumer system attributes.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising reformatting of the at least the portion of the content item based on the one or more consumer system attributes, and streaming the reformatted at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising executable instructions, the instructions being executable by a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving one or more advertisements;

receiving at least a portion of a content item, the content item comprising stream-enabled video, the stream-enabled video including a series of images, each image including image content;

identifying an insertion point in the at least the portion of the content item for the one or more advertisements, the insertion point being identified before the at least the portion of the content item is being streamed to a consumer system, the identifying the insertion point being in response to satisfaction of a predetermined condition, the predetermined condition being based on the image content of one or more images of the series of images;

stitching the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point, the stitching including modifying the at least the portion of the content item to add the one or more advertisements into the at least the portion of the content item at the insertion point;

using a single identifier in a playlist to identify the modified at least the portion of the content item; and

in response to receiving by the server system from the consumer system a request including the single identifier, streaming, by the server system, the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system, the streaming including streaming the one or more advertisements of the modified at least the portion of the content item to the consumer system when the insertion point is reached.
