Abstract

Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, comprising the steps of, or structure for, storing a plurality of expert profiles in a database, each of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information associated with a person having knowledge in a particular category, subject or topic; receiving search criteria over a network from a query source; selecting at least one of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information that satisfy the search criteria; and transmitting expert profile data for each of the selected expert profiles to the remote search engine, the expert profile data comprising data that defines a displayable representation of a corresponding expert profile, the expert profile data further comprising data that facilitates a client-initiated, real-time communication session over the network with a person associated with the corresponding expert profile.

Claims (43)

1. A method comprising:

intercepting a query corresponding to a first user profile addressed to one or more user profiles associated with the first user profile;

transmitting the query, wherein when the query is received by an expert query search system, the expert query system identifies one or more expert profiles from a set of expert profiles, and wherein one or more expert profiles are separate from the one or more user profiles;

receiving expert profile data that includes instructions that, when executed, generate a displayable representation of the one or more expert profiles and enable real-time communications with an expert profile; and

facilitating a display of the representation of the one or more expert profiles, wherein the display is facilitated by executing the instructions.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the query is received by a social media interface.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the query to the expert query search system includes executing the query through a search engine.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed through a search engine interface.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a selection of an expert profile from the one or more expert profiles; and

establishing a real-time communication session between an agent associated with the expert profile and a user associated with the first user profile.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving updated expert profile data, wherein the updated expert profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache, and wherein updated expert profile data is received when the real-time availability data changes.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expert profiles of the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed in a randomized order to counteract position bias.

8. A system comprising:

one or more processers; and

a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processers, cause the one or more processers to perform operations including:

intercepting a query corresponding to a first user profile addressed to one or more user profiles associated with the first user profile;

transmitting the query, wherein when the query is received by an expert query search system, the expert query system identifies one or more expert profiles from a set of expert profiles, and wherein one or more expert profiles are separate from the one or more user profiles;

receiving expert profile data that includes instructions that, when executed, generate a displayable representation of the one or more expert profiles and enable real-time communications with an expert profile; and

facilitating a display of the representation of the one or more expert profiles, wherein the display is facilitated by executing the instructions.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the query is received by a social media interface.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein transmitting the query to the expert query search system includes executing the query through a search engine.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed through a search engine interface.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the operations further include:

receiving a selection of an expert profile from the one or more expert profiles; and

establishing a real-time communication session between an agent associated with the expert profile and a user associated with the first user profile.

13. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving updated expert profile data, wherein the updated expert profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache, and wherein updated expert profile data is received when the real-time availability data changes.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the expert profiles of the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed in a randomized order to counteract position bias.

15. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processers, cause the one or more processers to perform operations including:

intercepting a query corresponding to a first user profile addressed to one or more user profiles associated with the first user profile;

transmitting the query, wherein when the query is received by an expert query search system, the expert query system identifies one or more expert profiles from a set of expert profiles, and wherein one or more expert profiles are separate from the one or more user profiles;

receiving expert profile data that includes instructions that, when executed, generate a displayable representation of the one or more expert profiles and enable real-time communications with an expert profile; and

facilitating a display of the representation of the one or more expert profiles, wherein the display is facilitated by executing the instructions.

16. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the query is received by a social media interface.

17. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed through a search engine interface.

18. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising:

receiving a selection of an expert profile from the one or more expert profiles; and

establishing a real-time communication session between an agent associated with the expert profile and a user associated with the first user profile.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising:

receiving updated expert profile data, wherein the updated expert profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache, and wherein updated expert profile data is received when the real-time availability data changes.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the expert profiles of the representation of the one or more expert profiles are displayed in a randomized order to counteract position bias.
