Abstract

A decorative panel including a substrate material and decorative top layer, wherein the decorative top layer includes at least one timber layer, wherein the timber layer is a compressed timber layer with a permanent increased density as compared to an original timber layer, wherein the decorative panel is a square or rectangular floor panel which, at, at least one pair of opposite edges, or at both pairs, includes mechanical coupling allowing to couple two of such floor panels to each other such that a locking is created in a vertical direction perpendicular to a plane of the coupled panels, as well as in a horizontal direction perpendicular to a coupled edge and in the plane of the coupled panels, the mechanical coupling being in the substrate material.

Claims (32)

1. A decorative panel comprising:

a substrate material; and

a decorative top layer that comprises at least one timber layer that is a compressed timber layer with a permanent increased density as compared to an original timber layer;

wherein the decorative panel is a square or rectangular floor panel which, at least at one pair of opposite edges or at both pairs of opposite edges, comprises a mechanical coupling configured to allow coupling of two of such floor panels to each other, such that a locking is created in a vertical direction, which is perpendicular to a plane of the coupled panels, as well as in a horizontal direction, which is perpendicular to a coupled edge and is in the plane of the coupled panels;

wherein the mechanical coupling is in the substrate material; and

wherein the mechanical coupling of the at least one pair of opposite edges allows a coupling by a downward-directed movement.

2. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one timber layer has a wood structure with naturally occurring vessels throughout a thickness of the wood structure, the vessels being collapsed.

3. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the timber layer has an increased density of at least 20 percent.

4. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical coupling of the at least one pair of opposite edges comprises a tongue and a groove bordered by an upper lip and a lower lip.

5. The decorative panel of claim 4 , wherein the mechanical coupling of the at least one pair of opposite edges allows a coupling by a turning movement along respective edges.

6. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the timber layer has an increased density of at least 50 percent.

7. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein:

the mechanical coupling of the at least one pair of opposite edges comprises a male coupling part and a female coupling part; and

by the downward movement, the male coupling part is pushed into the female coupling part.

8. The decorative panel of claim 7 , wherein the female coupling part comprises a resilient element to lock in the vertical direction.

The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the substrate material is a wood-based material, selected from the group consisting of a medium density fiberboard (MDF) or high density fiberboard (HDF) board, a chipboard, a wood plastic composite board, a lamella core, a board assembled from laths, a thermoplastic board and a plywood board.

10. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the decorative panel comprises a glue layer between the decorative top layer and the substrate material to attach the decorative top layer to the substrate material.

11. The decorative panel of claim 10 , wherein the glue layer comprises an adhesive or a thermosetting adhesive.

12. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the decorative top layer comprises a wear resistant coating or a wear resistant coating that is a UV lacquer or oil.

13. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the timber layer has a thickness of below 1.5 mm, or a thickness of below 1 mm and above 0.2 mm.

14. The decorative panel of claim 1 , wherein the timber layer is a stained timber layer.

15. A decorative panel comprising:

a substrate material; and

a decorative top layer that comprises at least one timber layer that is a compressed timber layer with naturally occurring vessels throughout a thickness of the wood structure, wherein the vessels are collapsed;

wherein the decorative panel is a square or rectangular floor panel which, at a first pair of opposite edges and at a second pair of opposite edges, comprises a mechanical coupling configured to allow coupling of two of such floor panels to each other, such that a locking is created in a vertical direction, which is perpendicular to a plane of the coupled panels, as well as in a horizontal direction, which is perpendicular to the coupled edge and is in the plane of the coupled panels;

wherein the mechanical couplings are in the substrate material;

wherein the mechanical coupling of the first pair of opposite edges allows a coupling by a turning movement along respective edges of the first pair of opposite edges;

wherein the mechanical coupling of the second pair of opposite edges allows a coupling by a downward-directed movement and comprises a male coupling part and a female coupling part, and wherein, by the downward movement, the male coupling part is pushed into the female coupling part.

16. The decorative panel of claim 15 , wherein the female coupling part comprises a resilient element to lock in the vertical direction.

17. The decorative panel of claim 15 , wherein the mechanical coupling of the first pair of opposite comprises a tongue and a groove bordered by an upper lip and a lower lip.

18. The decorative panel of claim 15 , wherein the decorative panel comprises a glue layer between the decorative top layer and the substrate material to attach the decorative top layer to the substrate material.

19. The decorative panel of claim 15 , wherein the timber layer has a thickness of below 1.5 mm, or a thickness of below 1 mm and above 0.2 mm.
