Abstract

A medical device for performing a surgical procedure may include an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween. The medical device may also include a handle connected to the proximal end of the elongate member, an end effector assembly connected to the distal end of the elongate member, and a cutting device configured to extend from the end effector assembly, wherein the cutting device has a retracted configuration in which the cutting device is withdrawn into the end effector assembly and a deployed configuration in which the cutting device extends from the end effector assembly.

Claims (24)

1. A medical device comprising:

an outer cup;

an inner cup partially located within the outer cup; and

a cutting device located between the outer cup and the inner cup, the cutting device having a distal portion, wherein in a retracted configuration the distal portion is disposed between the outer and inner cups without projecting distally beyond either of the outer cup or the inner cup, and wherein in a deployed configuration the distal portion extends distally beyond the outer cup and the inner cup.

2. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the outer cup includes an edge and a distal end of the cutting device extends beyond the outer cup edge.

3. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the cutting device is configured to move between a first position and a second position along a longitudinal axis of the medical device.

4. The medical device of claim 3 , comprising a tab extending from the cutting device to a circular member such that the tab couples the cutting device to the circular member, wherein the circular member is operable to extend the cutting device from the first position to the second position.

5. The medical device of claim 1 , the cutting device rotates about a longitudinal axis with respect to the outer cup.

6. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the cutting device is monopolar.

7. The medical device of claim 1 , wherein the cutting device includes an electrically resistive coating.

8. A medical device for performing a surgical procedure, the medical device comprising:

an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween;

a handle connected to the proximal end of the elongate member, the handle including an actuation mechanism;

a cup connected to the distal end of the elongate member, the cup including a first wall and a second wall; and

a cutting device configured to:

extend from the cup between a first position and a second position along a longitudinal axis of the medical device; and

rotate about a longitudinal axis of the end effector assembly, wherein the actuation mechanism is configured to control rotation of the cutting device about the longitudinal axis of the end effector assembly, and wherein the cutting device rotates independently of the handle.

9. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the second wall includes an edge and a distal end of the cutting device extends beyond the second wall edge in a second position.

10. The medical device of claim 9 , wherein the cutting device is extendible between the first wall and the second wall between the first position and the second position, wherein the cutting device is substantially disposed between the first wall and the second wall in the first position and extends from between the first wall and the second wall in the second position.

11. The medical device of claim 10 , comprising a tab extending from the cutting device to a circular member such that the tab couples the cutting device to the circular member, wherein the circular member is operable to extend the cutting device from the first position to the second position.

12. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting device rotates about a longitudinal axis.

13. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting device is monopolar.

14. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting device includes an electrically resistive coating.

15. The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting device is disposed between the first wall and the second wall without projecting longitudinally beyond either of the first wall or the second wall.
