Generalized distributed multi-user (MU) transmissions
Certain aspects relate to methods and apparatus for wireless communication. The apparatus generally includes a processing system configured to generate a first frame including an indication of unused resources in a first basic service set (BSS) available to be shared with one or more wireless nodes in one or more second BSSs. The apparatus also includes a first interface configured to output the first frame for transmission to the one or more wireless nodes.
1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a receiver configured to receive a first frame including an indication of unused resources in a first basic service set (BSS) available to be shared with the apparatus, wherein the apparatus is in a second BSS;
a memory;
at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to generate, responsive to the first frame, a second frame including an indication of an intent to use one or more of the unused resources; and
a transmitter configured to transmit the second frame, wherein:
the at least one processor is further configured to generate one or more data frames for participating in distributed communications with at least another apparatus in the first BSS, after transmission of the second frame; and
the transmitter is further configured to transmit at least one of the one or more data frames using one or more of the unused resources.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second frame further comprises an indication of at least one of a number of spatial dimensions available at the apparatus or a number of devices served by the apparatus.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the receiver is further configured to receive one or more data frames on the unused resources from one or more devices in the second BSS, after transmission of the second frame.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the unused resources comprise at least one of unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in the first BSS or unused portions of spectrum in the first BSS.
5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus comprise:
a first number of the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in a first portion of spectrum in the first BSS; and
a second different number of the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in a second portion of spectrum in the first BSS.
6 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein:
the receiver is further configured to receive a third frame allocating at least one of the unused spatial dimensions or the unused portions of spectrum, after transmission of the second frame; and
the at least one processor is further configured to participate in distributed communications with the other apparatus in the first BSS based on the allocated unused spatial dimensions or unused portions of spectrum.
7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the third frame comprises a null data packet announcement.
8 . A method for wireless communications by an apparatus, comprising:
obtaining a first frame including an indication of unused resources in a first basic service set (BSS) available to be shared with the apparatus, wherein the apparatus is in a second BSS;
in response to the first frame, generating a second frame including an indication of an intent to use one or more of the unused resources;
outputting the second frame for transmission;
after outputting the second frame for transmission, generating one or more data frames for participating in distributed communications with at least another apparatus in the first BSS; and
outputting at least one of the data frames using one or more of the unused resources.
9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the distributed communications comprise multi-user (MU) multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) (MU-MIMO) communications.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the second frame further comprises an indication of at least one of a number of spatial dimensions available at the apparatus or a number of devices served by the apparatus.
11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
after outputting the second frame for transmission, obtaining one or more data frames on the unused resources from one or more devices in the second BSS.
12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the unused resources comprise at least one of unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in the first BSS or unused portions of spectrum in the first BSS.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus comprise:
a first number of the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in a first portion of spectrum in the first BSS; and
a second different number of the unused spatial dimensions available at the other apparatus in a second portion of spectrum in the first BSS.
14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
after outputting the second frame for transmission, obtaining a third frame allocating at least one of the unused spatial dimensions or the unused portions of spectrum; and
participating in distributed communications with the other apparatus in the first BSS based on the allocated unused spatial dimensions or unused portions of spectrum.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the third frame comprises a null data packet announcement.
16 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the distributed communications comprise multi-user (MU) multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) (MU-MIMO) communications.
17 . A second apparatus, comprising:
a processing system that includes one or more processors and one or more code-storing memories coupled with the one or more processors, the processing system configured to cause the second apparatus to:
receive a frame allocating unused resources in a first basic service set (BSS), wherein the second apparatus is in a second BSS;
generate, after the reception of the frame, one or more data frames for participating in coordinated beamforming with at least a first apparatus in the first BSS; and
simultaneously transmit the one or more data frames on the unused resources as part of the coordinated beamforming with the first apparatus.
18 . The second apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the unused resources comprise at least one of unused spatial dimensions available at the first apparatus in the first BSS, unused spatial dimensions available at the second apparatus, or unused portions of spectrum in the first BSS.
19 . A method for wireless communications by a second apparatus, comprising:
obtaining a frame allocating unused resources in a first basic service set (BSS), wherein the second apparatus is in a second BSS;
after obtaining the frame, generating one or more data frames for participating in coordinated beamforming with at least a first apparatus in the first BSS; and
simultaneously outputting the one or more data frames for transmission on the unused resources as part of the coordinated beamforming with the first apparatus.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the unused resources comprise at least one of unused spatial dimensions available at the first apparatus in the first BSS, unused spatial dimensions available at the second apparatus, or unused portions of spectrum in the first BSS.
