Packing additional information in each message element in 5G/6G
View Patent ↗Additional information can be packed into each message element of a 5G/6G message by varying the amplitude of the signal within the symbol-time of the message element. For example, the difference between the amplitude at the beginning and ending of the symbol-time may encode additional bits, thereby providing higher information density in each transmission. The amplitude variation may be abrupt, such as a sudden change from the first amplitude value to the second amplitude value in the middle of the symbol-time, or it may be a gradual linear ramp spanning the symbol-time. In either case, the modulation scheme may include amplitude variation levels as well as the amplitude levels themselves, thereby providing a larger modulation space and hence shorter messages. Effects on crosstalk and frequency offset due to the amplitude variation, and their mitigation, are also disclosed.
1. A method for demodulating wireless messages, the method comprising:
a) receiving, by a receiver, a wireless message comprising message elements, each message a) element comprising a single resource element of a resource grid comprising symbol-times in time and subcarriers in frequency, each message element comprising a received waveform;
b) for each message element, determining a first modulation value according to an amplitude of the waveform at a beginning of the message element and a second modulation value according to an amplitude of the waveform at an ending of the message element;
c) for each message element, determining an amplitude variation comprising a difference between the amplitude of the waveform at the beginning of the message element and the amplitude of the waveform at the ending of the message element; and
d) demodulating each message element according to the first modulation value and the amplitude variation.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is received according to 5G or 6G technology.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amplitude variation of each message element comprises an abrupt amplitude change at a midpoint of the message element.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amplitude variation of each message element comprises a linear ramp spanning the message element.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amplitude variation comprises a change in a sign of the received waveform amplitude.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
a) receiving, proximate to the message, a demodulation reference comprising a first resource element and a second resource element;
b) wherein the first resource element comprises a reference waveform comprising a first reference amplitude at a beginning of the first resource element and a second reference amplitude, different from the first reference amplitude, at an ending of the first resource element; and
c) determining a reference amplitude variation comprising a difference between the first and second reference amplitudes.
7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
a) determining, according to the reference amplitude at the beginning of the first resource element, one or more amplitude levels of a modulation scheme; and
b) determining, according to the variation of the reference amplitude, one or more amplitude variation levels of the modulation scheme.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the demodulating each message element comprises:
a) comparing the first modulation value to each of the one or more amplitude levels of the modulation scheme, and selecting a closest amplitude level of the one or more amplitude levels; and
b) comparing the amplitude variation of the message element to each of the one or more amplitude variation levels of the modulation scheme, and selecting a closest amplitude variation level of the modulation scheme.
9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the second resource element of the demodulation reference comprises zero transmission.
10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising determining, according to a signal received in the second resource element, an inter-subcarrier crosstalk.
11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising determining, according to a position of the second resource element, a start or an end of the message.
12. The method of claim 6 , further comprising determining, according to the reference amplitude variation, a frequency offset.
