Abstract

A finger-worn wearable ring device may include a ring-shaped housing, a printed circuit board, and a sensor module that includes one or more light-emitting components and one or more light-receiving components. The wearable ring device may further include a communication module configured to wirelessly communicate with an application executable on a user device.

Claims (39)

1. A finger-worn wearable ring device, comprising:

an inner ring-shaped housing having an inner curved surface of the finger-worn wearable ring device that is configured to at least partially contact a tissue of a user;

an outer ring-shaped housing having an outer curved surface of the finger-worn wearable ring device that is at least partially exposed to a surrounding environment of the user;

a rechargeable battery; and

one or more thermoelectric generator modules electrically coupled with the rechargeable battery, the one or more thermoelectric generator modules disposed at least partially between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing, the one or more thermoelectric generator modules configured to generate a current to recharge the rechargeable battery based at least in part on a temperature difference between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing.

2. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing are thermally insulated from one another.

3. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more insulators disposed between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing, wherein the one or more insulators are configured to thermally insulate the inner ring-shaped housing from the outer ring-shaped housing.

4. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more thermoelectric generator modules contact the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing.

5. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein a first side of the one or more thermoelectric generator modules is configured to contact the inner ring-shaped housing, and wherein a second side of the one or more thermoelectric generator modules is configured to contact the outer ring-shaped housing.

6. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the inner curved surface comprises a first thermally conductive material, and wherein at least a portion of the outer curved surface comprises a second thermally conductive material.

7. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 6 , wherein the first thermally conductive material comprises a first metallic material, and wherein the second thermally conductive material comprises a second metallic material.

8. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more sensors electrically coupled with the rechargeable battery, the one or more sensors configured to acquire data from the user through the inner ring-shaped housing, the one or more sensors comprising:

one or more light-emitting components configured to emit light through the inner ring-shaped housing; and

one or more light-receiving components configured to receive the light transmitted by the one or more light-emitting components into the tissue of the user through the inner ring-shaped housing; and

one or more processors configured to process the data acquired by the one or more sensors based at least in part on a reflectance, and absorbance, or both, of the light received by the one or more light-receiving components.

9. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more light-emitting components configured to emit the light associated with two or more wavelengths, wherein the two or more wavelengths include a first wavelength associated with infrared light and a second wavelength associated with visible light, and wherein the one or more light-receiving components configured to receive the light associated with the two or more wavelengths.

10. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first insulator disposed between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing on a first lateral side of the finger-worn wearable ring device; and

a second insulator disposed between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing on a second lateral side of the finger-worn wearable ring device, wherein the first insulator and the second insulator are configured to thermally insulate the inner ring-shaped housing from the outer ring-shaped housing.

11. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more thermoelectric generator modules comprise a plurality of thermoelectric generator modules arranged at a plurality of radial positions around a circumference of the finger-worn wearable ring device.

12. The finger-worn wearable ring device of claim 1 , wherein the temperature difference between the inner ring-shaped housing and the outer ring-shaped housing is based at least in part on an additional temperature difference between the tissue of the user and the surrounding environment of the user.

13. A wearable computing device, comprising:

an inner housing, the inner housing comprising a first surface that is configured to at least partially contact a tissue of a user;

an outer housing, the outer housing comprising a second surface that is at least partially exposed to a surrounding environment of the user;

a rechargeable battery; and

one or more thermoelectric generator modules electrically coupled with the rechargeable battery, the one or more thermoelectric generator modules disposed at least partially between the inner housing and the outer housing, the one or more thermoelectric generator modules configured to generate a current to recharge the rechargeable battery based at least in part on a temperature difference between the inner housing and the outer housing.

14. The wearable computing device of claim 13 , wherein the inner housing and the outer housing are thermally insulated from one another.

15. The wearable computing device of claim 13 , wherein the one or more thermoelectric generator modules contact the inner housing and the outer housing.

16. The wearable computing device of claim 13 , wherein a first side of the one or more thermoelectric generator modules is configured to contact the inner housing, and wherein a second side of the one or more thermoelectric generator modules is configured to contact the outer housing.

17. The wearable computing device of claim 13 , wherein at least a portion of the first surface comprises a first thermally conductive material, and wherein at least a portion of the second surface comprises a second thermally conductive material.
