Abstract

A magnetic momentum transfer generator utilizes three or more magnets aligned with each other. A first control magnet is positioned outside a coil. A second magnet is positioned within the windings of the coil and a third magnet is positioned on the opposite side of the coil opposite the control magnet. When the control magnet rotated or moved, mutual magnetic flux lines generated by all three magnets and passing through the coil winding are aligned at right angles to the coil, thereby inducing a maximum voltage at the terminals. This generator is particularly useful for short burst radio micro-transmitters that can be used for battery-less and wireless switching applications.

Claims (29)

1 . An electrical generator comprising:

a plurality of turns of wire forming a coil, the plurality of turns of wire having a first terminal end and a second terminal end;

a first magnet positioned adjacent the coil;

a second magnet positioned within the coil and configured to rotate on an axis of rotation; and

a third magnet positioned adjacent the coil,

wherein the first magnet and the third magnet are arranged symmetrically about the axis of rotation, wherein a first magnetic field exists between the first magnet and the second magnet and a second magnetic field exists between the third magnet and the second magnet, and voltage is induced at the first terminal end and the second terminal end in response to the second magnet being rotated.

2 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein the first magnet, the second magnet and the third magnet are aligned with one another in a horizontal plane extending through a center of the first magnet, a center of the second magnet and a center of the third magnet.

3 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of turns of wire are disposed on a coil bobbin.

4 . The electrical generator of claim 3 , further comprising a substrate configured to seat the coil bobbin.

5 . The electrical generator of claim 4 , wherein the substrate includes a hollow chamber, and wherein the third magnet is disposed within the hollow chamber.

6 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first magnet and the third magnet is fixed and non-rotatable.

7 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein the first magnet and the second magnet are each disposed within an enclosure.

8 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein the voltage is induced at the first terminal end and the second terminal end in response to the second magnet being rotated in either a clockwise direction or a counter-clockwise direction.

9 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first magnet, the second magnet, and the third magnet is cylindrical in shape.

10 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first magnet, the second magnet, and the third magnet is rectangular in shape.

11 . The electrical generator of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first magnet, second magnet, and third magnet is a diametrically-poled, elongated polygon magnet, an axially-poled cylinder magnet, or an axially-poled polygon magnet.

12 . A method comprising:

rotating a first magnet about a first axis of rotation, wherein the first magnet is disposed within a coil formed by a plurality of turns of wire; and

inducing a voltage between a first terminal end of the plurality of turns of wire and a second terminal end of the plurality of turns of wire, the inducing caused by the rotating of the first magnet and based on a first magnetic field between the first magnet and a second magnet positioned adjacent the coil and a second magnetic field between the first magnet and a third magnet positioned adjacent the coil, wherein the second magnet and the third magnet are arranged symmetrically about the first axis of rotation.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second magnet is configured to rotate about a second axis of rotation, the method further comprising:

applying a force to the second magnet to cause the second magnet to rotate about the second axis of rotation, wherein rotation of the second magnet induces the rotation of the first magnet about the first axis of rotation via the first magnetic field.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the second magnet is rotated in either a clockwise direction or a counter-clockwise direction.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the second magnet is disposed within an enclosure having a toggle paddle configured to receive the applied force.

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the first magnet and the second magnet are coupled to a lever configured to rotate the first magnet and the second magnet in unison, the method further comprising:

applying a force to the lever to cause the first magnet to rotate about the first axis of rotation and the second magnet to rotate about a second axis of rotation.

17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the third magnet is fixed and non-rotatable.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the third magnet is configured to rotate about a third axis of rotation.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the first axis of rotation, the second axis of rotation and the third axis of rotation are parallel.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the first magnet, the second magnet and the third magnet are aligned with one another in a horizontal plane extending through a center of the first magnet, a center of the second magnet and a center of the third magnet.
